How To Worship Our Mother In Heaven Without Getting Excommunicated

And as far as morality in general is concerned I think that sex inside marriage is the only acceptable kind. Moving on.

You know Lukas, I can totally respect what you wrote. It's a personal thing for you. I must admit that I've let my mind wander and explore what She must be like. How much she must love me. And I've wondered how much she must be involved in my life. These feelings and ideas are usually kept very private. We can draw quite a few conclusions just by projecting what we know about our familial responsibilities and obligations onto our Divine parentage; but it would be tenuous at best.

Exploring this idea of a Mother in Heaven on our own through careful pondering and prayer (to our Father in Heaven) is fine, IMO. And when Father knows we are prepared, and can keep our mouths shut, perhaps further light and knowledge will come.

Big UP!

Oh of course, I think it's a very personal thing, and just as you stated, it should be kept private. This is where I have no problem with people following what light and knowledge they personally have from our Father. If it just so happens that someone can get closer to God through revelation about Heavenly Mother, I believe God is completely willing to give that revelation. If someone, like myself, feels that it is OK to ask God to let us feel the influence of our Mother in our lives, and that it's OK to ask Her for some needed help, then I'm fine with that.

I draw the line at public, Church discourse. I don't think matters like these should be spoken of in Sunday school, or any other Church meetings, unless it's coming from the mouth of one of our prophets. However, I have absolutely no problem with creative mediums like Sunstone being used to expound on such ideas. I think it's wonderful that we have so many outlets, and so many different angles about which we can speak of the Church. With that said, just like anything else, I think it's important to really listen to God, and really prayerfully consider what knowledge He has given us. If He doesn't want it broadcast to the world, whether that means in Church meetings of through mediums like Sunstone, I believe He will tell us this. As with anything else, we should look to the leaders of the Church for revelation concerning these matters to the whole Church, and prayerfully consider everything else.

In LDS theology, we were Intelligences before we were actually homo-sapien looking spirits. We don't know exactly what the means. I sort of imagine an intelligence to be like that pink little squishy blob with eyes (named Morph) in the Disney movie Treasure Planet. So then God "organizes" us into a spirit. Again, we dont know what that means, but I doubt it parallels human creation where a sperm meets and egg, because we already exist as floating blobs (unless you think that it does parallel human creation and at the moment of conception we get sucked in and then birthed out as a fully grown spirit. I mean that is just weird). He could just as easily had a magic wand that he pointed at each blob while saying some cool incantation like "Cadavre Existo!" Point is, there are lots of scenarios where there is no need for a mother. And since I doubt we will EVER have any sort of revelation on it from the Church, its pointless to really talk about.

The ignorant and inflammatory political slur notwithstanding, I'll agree with you if and when serious, reasonable critics such as CKSalmon and Soren are being silenced.

Until then we have the board equivalent of the National Enquirer to carry CynicPro's water: "revelation", Billy, Wes, and all the rest of the Carmites.

Personally, I view Rosie O'Donnel as the supreme incarnation of the divine feminine in our Age. She alone is worthy of our devotion!

Bill, you're a great guy, but if you keep saying stuff like that before I've had my morning coffee and I'm gonna smear you with Haagen-Daas and toss you into her cage!

I haven't finished this theory, so there are a lot of loose ends, and it is extremely broad.

It starts with Abraham.

God promised (covenanted with) Abraham that He would give him and his posterity the land of Canaan, but that this transfer would not happen for four hundred years because the iniquity of the Canaanites was not yet full. (This was even though Sodom and Gomorrah were destroyed for their wickedness. What that "full iniquity" must have entailed is mind boggling, given the fire and brimstone rained down on two of their cities.)

It is my theory that the Canaanites were the original covenant people. They are in the right place, they have the right king (Melchizedek/Shem?), and they have many facets of the true religion of the true God. They are, however, apostate.

One thing we do know is that Canaanite religion incorporated "sympathetic sex", specifically, the use of "sacred" (or temple) prostitutes whose services had two purposes. First, by coupling, the customers and the prostitutes were showing Ba`al what to do to bring fertility (probably rain) to the land, since the coupling of the gods was what the Canaanites believed caused the seasons leading to the harvests. Second, the price of the prostitute was dedicated to the gods' temples and their priests.

I believe that this "sexual worship" was a direct descendant of the original knowledge of a Father and Mother in Heaven, a male God and a female God with all that implies.

So, the degenerate religion of the Canaanites did precisely what our leaders have hypothesized in regards to our Mother: they took Her Person and went 'way over the edge, dishonoring Her in their worship of to the extent that She became a prostitute. Father loves Her, and will not allow that to happen again. So He has sheltered her from the wanton eyes of the people who might just repeat what happened earlier.

The ignorant and inflammatory political slur

I can't make one joke about FOX News without being "ignorant" and "inflammatory"? Sheesh.

And to completely derail my own thread, FOX news might has well put George Will and Brit Hume across the table from each other and make Brit the conservative, on the grounds that he's not wearing a bow tie. And then we have the New York Times, The Washington Post, and CNN who are just as bad in asserting their unbalanced liberal agenda.

So if you are really looking for fair and balanced, just keep switching back and forth between FOX and CNN.

In LDS theology, we were Intelligences before we were actually homo-sapien looking spirits.

That's a distorted perception of the teachings of our Lord's prophtets and apostles, in my perspective.

Here is a copy of what I told someone else about this issue recently, based upon what I have learned from our Lord's prophets and apostles:

We are eternal because we were born of something eternal, and we are eternal in the very same sense that our Father is heaven is eternal.

Contrary to the opinions of some of us in this world, life doesn't begin at conception, because life doesn't begin. Life is eternal, or a continuation of life, with one kind of life producing another life of the very same kind and with the intelligence of a kind of being being of the very same kind of intelligence of that particular being.

... in other words, a dog has the intelligence of dogs... and a porpoise has the intelligence of porpoises... and a monkey has the intelligence of monkeys... and God (as a being, the highest kind of being in all of existence) has more intelligence than them all.

... with there also being various degrees of intelligence within each kind of being, with our Father in heaven having the highest degree of intelligence that is attainable by any of us who are His children... or any other kind of being, for that matter.

I see our state of being with God before we came here as being spirits... spirit children of God... without bodies (or tabernacles/temples) of flesh. We have been told that spirit matter does have material substance, but our bodies were still not like that of our Father in heaven. We had only the types of bodies we will have again when we die, when our spirits separate from our bodies of flesh before we are resurrected, and in the resurrection our spirits will then unite with our bodies of flesh to never again be separated.

It's pretty awesome to think about such things, but we need to be careful to think correctly, taking for ourselves the guidance of the Holy Spirit as He will convey truth to us when we seek it.

We are not only at the top of the food chain, but we are also at the top as far as being of the highest order of intelligence... in all of existence.

There is no being which is greater than us (our kind), collectively, but at the same time the fact that we are at the top in that sense doesn't mean that we have necessarily reached the same level as that of our Father, in total perfection. We do have that potential, though, and our Father sent our Lord to help us reach that level, as long as we look to Him as our Lord and exemplar.

We don't know exactly what the means.

Speak for yourself, please. Our Lord's prophets and apostles have revealed quite a bit on this issue, and some of us know more about the truth of their teachings than some others of us.

I sort of imagine an intelligence to be like that pink little squishy blob with eyes (named Morph) in the Disney movie Treasure Planet. So then God "organizes" us into a spirit.

That's funny, and perhaps even cute to a certain extent, but it's not how we really were.

We are eternal because we were born of parents who are eternal and we have their essence within us.

Again, we dont know what that means, but...

Again, speak for yourself, please. There are many good books out there you could learn from.

... and it is up to you to keep learning.

I'm digging through a lot of Dialogue's in order to research the role of Women (singular and plural) as Deity. I haven't even started with the Sunstone crowd yet. But conservative Mormon publications or websites seem to be silent on the subject. Not surprising.

It seems that discussion of a Heavenly Mother is quite often linked with the opinion that Women should hold the priesthood. Exponent II women and those influenced by Carol Lynn Pearson, go so far as to say that they feel the Holy Ghost is actually our Heavenly Mother. This is a slippery slope.

Again, I feel comfortable knowing She exists. What, if anything, am I going to do with that info? I don't know. But I do know that these individuals and their speculations are flirting with heresy, IMO.

Big UP!

No the Holy Ghost is not our Heavenly Mother, no we do not pray to Her or receive revelation from her, perhaps your Branch President was using a figure of speech that was used to comfort these single sisters, if he said that Heavenly Mother was "revealing" anything then I do not believe he was inspired of God. First women do not bear the priesthood period. They enjoy the blessings of the priesthood through the ordinances. In the Temple they preform ordinances under the direct authority of the Priesthood but they do not "borrow it" or do not hold the keys. Sorry Mother in Heaven is not a feminist, she is not independent of our Father in Heaven. Just as the woman is not without the man neither the man without the woman in the Lord (meaning singles are not exalted) and so in order to obtain this highest degree of glory we must enter into the new and everlasting covenant of marriage and if we do not either in this life or by proxy we cannot obtain exaltation. Anyone teaching that we should pray to our Mother in Heaven or say she is a member of the Godhead is an apostate. The priesthood is the authority and power by which God rules and reigns and those who sever themselves from the keys of the priesthood which are held by the First Presidency and the Twelve have no authority or priesthood power. So no matter if devotee's of Sonya Johnson ordain a women to the priesthood that is not recognized by God and therefore is invalid. As for what we are to do with the information that we have a heavenly mother, you do what you agreed to do when you were baptized and went to the Temple, keep the covenants to follow the Lord and His servants and worship the Father in the name of the Son by the power of the Holy Ghost.

As always I'm looking for counter arguments. It kinda helps me identify flaws, or extreme- over zealous positions. I feel pretty strongly about the narrow margin in which our Mother in Heaven should be a part of our worship.

Thought maybe there were some Exponent II women on MADB. You know, ever since cinepro got kicked out, we're about as balanced and fair as FOX News.

All I got from your post is that you believe you are special and in the know. That your speculation is inspired. Its certainly possible. Maybe your speculation can beat up my speculation. Maybe we were sparkly little floating lights instead of pink blobs. Its certainly within the realm of possibility. But I think you are wrong in your certitude about what has been taught by leaders of the church regarding premortal exisitence and the nature of intelligences and the process by which we were organized. Some have speculated and some have opined, no doubt. But very little of it is doctrine, save the few scriptures we find about it in the the POGP and other places. 99% of what is taught are fuzzy stories about us being eternal, families being eternal, etc. That sounds great and makes us feel better. We can imagine God sitting in his living room, by the fire, reading a story to the unborn spirits, while simultaneously listening to 40 trillion prayers being offered that enter his mind. But how did those spirits actually become spirits? WE DO NOT KNOW. You may believe some things about it, but I would venture to say that no one knows (except for maybe Hammer who communes with Joseph Smith regularly). Maybe God did "know" his wife a lot and produce 400,000 billion spirits. I can just imagine it now. They poof into the birthing room at Celestial Memorial, give birth to a full adult spirit, cut the spiritual cord, etc etc. A real spiritual birth. That would really mean we have a literal mother in heaven. Or God and his wife being our parents is figurative, allegorial, etc. Its possible its all just a story, kind of like how you would tell small children on your knee in story time. Wait. That was the Adam and Eve creation story. Wrong comparison.

Posted
i was told that we know so little about our Mother in heaven was because God wasnt that thrilled that Her name would be drug through the dirt the way His and Jesus' was. dont know if there is doctrine on it but it is not that hard to understand that motive.

I've heard this, too, but I don't find it convincing.

If you are a mother, which scenario is more enticing for you: 1. You will not be generally discussed, and so your name will not be used in vulgar ways; or 2. You actually get to talk with your children, and be a part of their growing up.?

I know which one I would pick.

All I got from your post is that you believe you are special and in the know.

Okay, but there is more you could get from my post, if you wanted to get it.

... and, just so you know, there is nothing wrong with being special and in the know.

That your speculation is inspired. Its certainly possible.

It's not just speculation when it's inspired.

It's what God has inspired me to know, which is what puts me "in the know".

Maybe your speculation can beat up my speculation.

What I said wasn't speculation, and once you know that, you will be just as sure and "in the know" as I am that what I have said is true.

Maybe we were sparkly little floating lights instead of pink blobs. Its certainly within the realm of possibility.

I'm not one of those people who believes that "anything" is possible.

There is such a thing as reality and what I seek to know is that which is really true.

But I think you are wrong in your certitude about what has been taught by leaders of the church regarding premortal exisitence and the nature of intelligences and the process by which we were organized.

You can continue to think I'm wrong for as long as you want to, but just because you will think I am wrong will not mean that I am actually wrong. It will simply mean that you will not know what is really true, in reality.

Some have speculated and some have opined, no doubt. But very little of it is doctrine, save the few scriptures we find about it in the the POGP and other places.

Your ignorance is becoming more and more apparent to me, Black Moclips.

Keep talking and I will find out even more about you and the little that you know.

99% of what is taught are fuzzy stories about us being eternal, families being eternal, etc.

I like that thought. Please continue to share more thoughts like that one.

I appreciate fuzzy stories.

That sounds great and makes us feel better.

Yes, they do, don't they.

I think it would be nice if all people enjoyed stories that sounded great and would make them feel better.

We can imagine God sitting in his living room, by the fire, reading a story to the unborn spirits, while simultaneously listening to 40 trillion prayers being offered that enter his mind.

Reading a story to unborn spirits? You mean like a man might do with His pregnant wife?

I'm getting pretty good at multi-tasking, myself, even though it will be a while before I can do everything my Father in heaven can do, but I never really thought about reading to my pregnant wife, or to the baby in her belly, before, and right now it's a little too dangerous for us, at our age, but I may keep that in mind and try it later, when I have children in heaven, to see what that's like.

But how did those spirits actually become spirits? WE DO NOT KNOW.

Yes we do. The fact that you don't believe what our Lord's prophets and apostles who have told us about that doesn't mean that we don't know, collectively. We do know, even though you may not know or believe that we know.

You need to hit the books some more, Black Moclips. There is more to know that you realize.

You may believe some things about it, but I would venture to say that no one knows (except for maybe Hammer who communes with Joseph Smith regularly).

I recommend that you search the words of our Lord's prophets and apostles, while asking God to help you in your search, rather than what it appears you are doing which is to dismiss what they have taught simply because some other people have told you that what they have taught isn't true or true doctrine.

You're cursing yourself when you dismiss the words of our Lords' prophets and apostles, in favor of what someone else has told you, and that isn't a good thing to do.

Anyways, enjoy your toast.

Look BatRay,

You've already gotten dinged more than once for setting yourself up as some sort of authority on what Mormons teach and believe.

You also damned DCP as a heretic and an anti-Mormon because he didn't agree with the drivel you were spouting.

Contrary to what the voices tell you, you are not and have not been ordained to call any faithful Mormon to repentance nor have you been appointed a judge in E-Zion.

Any inspiration you may have received is for your edification alone. You are not called or entitled to preach the Gospel according to Paul Ray, nor have you been commissioned to write PaulRays Epistle to MADBoard.

You are not the Prophet.

You are not an Apostle.

You are not a General Authority.

Take your pronouncements and stuff them in the sack with the guinea pig and sit on them.

We're growing very weary of your Alice-In-Wonderland approach to doctrine.

Look BatRay,

The name is Bat-Man, selek. Is there something wrong with your spell checker?

You've already gotten dinged more than once for setting yourself up as some sort of authority on what Mormons teach and believe.

And yet here you are acting as if you have the authority to set me straight.

Ironic, isn't it.

You also damned DCP as a heretic and an anti-Mormon because he didn't agree with the drivel you were spouting.

That's a lie, but I'll give you a little credit because I know that lie is based on a misunderstanding and you are simply trying to stick up for what is right to the best of your abilities.

Contrary to what the voices tell you, you are not and have not been ordained to call any faithful Mormon to repentance nor have you been appointed a judge in E-Zion.

And you would know that... how ???

FYI... any faithful elder can call someone to repentance, and everyone on Earth is a judge over whatever and whoever they encounter in their life. We aren't executioners, or at least we're not supposed to be, but we are judges, and it is left up to us whether or not we will judge righteously.

Furthermore, how is what I am doing any different that what you are doing ?

I already know the answer to that and you don't have to write down your answer for me, but I'd like you to at least think about that question.

Here you are trying to set me straight as if you have some kind of authority over me.

Where do you think you got that, and what are you trying to do with it?

How is what I am doing any differenet than what you are doing, selek.

We're not really so different, you and I. I'm just a little more handsome, mainly.

Any inspiration you may have received is for your edification alone.

If you truly believe that, then please try to keep your mouth shut and your fingers off of the keyboard whenever you get a good idea, instead of sharing it.

I have a feeling that you won't be able to do that, but we'll see.

You are not called or entitled to preach the Gospel according to Paul Ray, nor have you been commissioned to write PaulRays Epistle to MADBoard.

You're just being silly now. Please wake me up when this part is over.

You are not the Prophet.

No, not over the whole Church, I'm not, but I am a prophet of God just as every other member of our Lord's true Church on this Earth should be.

You are not an Apostle.

... and I've never claimed to be, either, selek.

Is this part over yet?

You are not a General Authority.

Instead of telling people what I am not, why don't you try telling people what I truly am?

I'd like to see how much of a true prophet of God you are.

Take your pronouncements and stuff them in the sack with the guinea pig and sit on them.

What good would that do?

I'm not going to hide my light under a bushel. No thank you.

I'm going to let it shine, all the time. Let it shine.

We're growing very weary of your Alice-In-Wonderland approach to doctrine.

Heh, if you don't want to hear from someone who has been down the rabbit hole, so to speak, then who do you want to hear from?

I'm not trying to stop you from sharing what you know to be true, so why do you want to stop me?

Oops. Nevermind. I now know the answer to that question.

... and here I thought we might actually become true friends someday.

Too bad.

I've always enjoyed your posts. Please don't go. I appreciate those who are willing to talk about the knowledge they've received to guide them in their lives from the Lord. But if you are leaving, best of luck to you.
