Calm Posted August 23, 2025 Posted August 23, 2025 (edited) I am behind on this. This is the fifth stop. My sister just told me about our nephew being down in Argentina with the Tab Choir (he is in the orchestra). I think they are hitting ten cities. Today’s is Buenos Aires, Argentina. The preshow is on right now, I assume they are locals. Too long since college Spanish to do more than pick up words here and there. Preshow starts at 3 MST. The main show starts at 4 MST. https://www.thetabernaclechoir.org/choir-world-tour?lang=eng&index=3 Love the sound of the song being played right now (32 minutes), wonder what it’s about, lol. Hoping my nephew will know the title. My nephew with his cello: Edited August 23, 2025 by Calm 4
Tony uk Posted August 24, 2025 Posted August 24, 2025 The Tabernacle Choir, sound wonderful. I just hope one day, they come to my part of the UK and I am able to attend. 1

I have a friend who is in the choir, and they were slated to do the UK and parts of scandinavia in 2020, but then covid happened and it got cancelled. She was so sad! I know she and others really hope that it got rescheduled. We haven't talked about it in over a year so I don't know if it ever did. 2

There are a number of venues in various parts of the UK with good acoustics, which are suitable to choirs. They are apparently going to go on tour more frequently, twice yearly rather than every four years iirc, but not for as long. Argentina is this year’s second stop according to the website. My sister said one of the stops was Lima as she had already watched that one, which I thought she meant a few days ago, so I looked it up and it looks like they went in February. Brazil is on next year’s list. I need to talk to my nephew to figure out what the schedule is actually like. I was confused because I see “tour” as a one year thing…or they go out and stay out until it’s done, but apparently this “Songs of Hope” tour is not only multi city, but multi year. I think Mexico City was June? 2023 , Philippines in Feb 2024, and Southeast Florida and Georgia in Sept 2024. (The tour may have originally been named “Melody of Hope”.) If I am right about it being “ten stops” (though it looks like they have multiple venues for each “stop”, that suggests it’s a five year tour that appears to be focused on Spanish speaking areas, so a European tour that includes London is unlikely at least until 2028. I will try and remember to ask my nephew if he’s heard any rumors about London anytime in the future, but even if he has (and is willing to share as they are probably told to keep quiet about rumors to avoid disappointment when rumors are wrong or plans have to be changed), chances are it would not yet be for certain, though I assume they schedule venues at least many years in advance. From last year: https://www.thechurchnews.com/living-faith/2024/10/14/tabernacle-choir-orchestra-songs-of-hope-tour-2025-argentina-peru-south-america/ Found the announcement on the current schedule. Looks like they hadn’t traveled since 2018 before starting again in mid 2023, plans for the 2020 tour were postponed a couple of times and then canceled when they couldn’t even make in 2022, but I may be wrong on that as my reading comprehension isn’t great right now. https://www.thechurchnews.com/living-faith/2022/11/19/23467476/tabernacle-choir-announces-3-pilot-programs-reach-inspire-people-throughout-world-mexico-june-2023/ “Travel: Travel assignments will be shorter and more frequent with a small — and more nimble — touring company, President Porter explained. Historically, the choir has traveled every two years. Now, the choir will travel annually but for a shorter time. Choir leaders and staff will also experiment with larger, joint performances and coordination with other Church entities. The choir will test this new travel pilot with an assignment to Mexico City on June 13-19, 2023.” Here is some info on how they used to tour, focusing on the European tours: https://rsc.byu.edu/regional-studies-latter-day-saint-church-history-europe/mormon-tabernacle-choirs-european-tours This has Europe being toured in 1998, there may have been visits since then as the article is from 2003. Added: AI says last time was 1998. Quote The last time the Tabernacle Choir visited London was in June 1998 as part of their European Tour, performing in the Royal Albert Hall. The choir was scheduled to visit London, as well as Wales, Scotland, and other locations in the UK in 2020, but this Heritage Tour was canceled, and the choir has not yet announced a replacement for that trip. I wonder if I am wrong that this possibly 5 year tour is focused on Spanish speaking areas (I was in and out on the broadcast yesterday, but pretty sure at least one song was in Spanish). Seems like they would try and get to the countries that got canceled as soon as they could. But maybe they couldn’t get the venues that quickly. 2

I know they were in Atlanta Georgia last fall, in the Philippines last February 2024, and Mexico in 2023. So I have no idea what the timeline is for their world tour (because it seems like they are always touring but not on a set schedule), or how they decide where to go. It's kind of all over the place! Atlanta, Georgia was the same trip as Southeast Florida and the soloist was Dolores (Adassa) from Encanto at least in Florida, so I was assuming even Georgia was pitched to the Latin community there. AI: Quote The Tabernacle Choir performed in Florida in September 2024 as part of its "Songs of Hope" tour, featuring Adassa, the voice of Dolores in Disney's Encanto. The free concert took place on September 7, 2024, at Amerant Bank Arena in Sunrise, Florida, and was live-streamed. The performance included music and dialogue in both English and Spanish, reflecting the region's Latin traditions But Georgia may have been unique, they might have had additional material, maybe 15 minutes as the video is longer. One of the host speaks in Spanish at times and they started out with Alleluias like they did yesterday, so thinking they did at least some of the Songs of Hope program. Maybe they adapt to those they participate with, soloists and in the case of Georgia, Spellman and Morehouse Glee Clubs. Quote The Tabernacle Choir and Orchestra at Temple Square (formerly known as the Mormon Tabernacle Choir) performed a "9/11" commemorative concert on Sept. 11, 2024 along with the glee clubs from Morehouse and Spelman colleges, at the massive State Farm Arena in Atlanta, Georgia. I was able to screen-record the last 41 minutes. Back in 1964-66, I sang in the Georgia Tech glee club. When guest soloist Kristin Chenoweth sang "How Great Thou Art", and the combined choirs closed with "God Be With You Till We Meet Again", and "Georgia On My Mind", I must admit, it brought me to tears. Enjoy. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D4-2ifJe8to I will have to ask my nephew, I guess, (it’s getting to be quite a list, lol). https://newsroom.churchofjesuschrist.org/article/the-tabernacle-choir-songs-of-hope-tour-florida-georgia Edited August 24, 2025 by Calm 2

I am showing my age and the brain deadness that always hits in the last hot days of summer…. First error: When I was in school, Spanish was an official language in the Philippines (dropped in 1987). I was not aware it wasn’t ever that popular even if the language of the government and rich back in Spanish colonial days. I just assumed it was a quite common language back in Spanish rule days and still like in Central and South America, I had a poor history teacher in high school though he was lots of fun. I had a great American History teacher in college (he was Canadian), but if the Philippines were discussed I have forgotten, lol. It made sense to me the Church would take a show pitched towards Spanish speakers to the Philippines. (Last census has 8.4% Spanish speakers in Georgia, I was guessing in trying to figure out how Georgia fit in that the percentage of Spanish speaking is likely higher among LDS than nonLDS given the strength of Baptists in the South, but from the news article, maybe it was more of a networking connection that led them there for 9-11). Second error: I substituted “Latin” for “Spanish speaking” without thinking because it was shorter. For some odd reason, I have no problem writing long, endless even posts, but sometimes writing a longer word or phrase is just too annoying to me even if the prior or next sentence has a long word in it. It is like when I shortened my name to Calm instead of Calmoriah because it was annoying to type so many letters when I logged in even though I probably wouldn’t have to log in again for month’s or years…though I have the excuse of being high on painkillers post surgery for that at least. Tony uk Posted August 25, 2025 Posted August 25, 2025 Whenever the Tabernacle Choir come to the UK. I will be keeping a lookout for them. For my ears, they sound how a choir should sound. 😊 3
