I equate Satan's desire to become powerful like God meant his desire for Godhood. From this LDS manual, "Satan because he sought to exalt himself above God and rule over Heavenly Father’s other children (see Isaiah 14:12–20; see also D&C 29:36; 76:25–28; Moses 4:1–4)". This rule would include worship, some examples being Jesus and Moses (Matthew 4:9, Moses 1:12). Moses 4:1 indicates Satan wanted the honor belonging to Heavenly Father whereas verse 3 depicts Heavenly Father viewing this as Satan wanting to be given His power. Satan could not be more powerful than God; could not receive more power that God already had. But it's not clear why Heavenly Father would need to cast Satan down by the power of Jesus, who may not have even been a God at this point in time, instead of by His own power.

Choice has a structure of obey or disobey. He knew. For the same reason, he knows we break some of the Ten Commandments yet he still gives us rules and consequences. He wanted to be like God.

The Practical Problem of Evil What thought process of Joseph Smith in his writings would explain this aspect of evil? Would "evil" in these scenarios just symbolize God's punishment instead of him being the origin of evil whereas "good" is symbolic of blessings? "Whithersoever they went out, the hand of the Lord was against them for evil, as the Lord had said, and as the Lord had sworn unto them: and they were greatly distressed" (Judges 2:15). "For I have set my face against this city for evil, and not for good, saith the Lord: it shall be given into the hand of the king of Babylon, and he shall burn it with fire" (Jeremiah 21:10). "And though they go into captivity before their enemies, thence will I command the sword, and it shall slay them: and I will set mine eyes upon them for evil, and not for good" (Amos 9:4).

I don't really know. But if God created sin so he could provide an Atonement, then he would be the author of sin. It's almost like the chicken and egg paradox. Does the chicken (the Atonement) lay the egg (the Fall), or does the egg (the Fall) lead to a chick (the Atonement). For your "but human parents" section, I might add "4. pass on a fallen human nature to their children".

I'd say pride and lust; the latter being like Eve's desire to become like God when following the devil's temptation.

I think you said these intelligences had agency. How did they act regarding good and evil before becoming spirit children?

I don't see God forced him (programed him) to rebel.

Parents know their children will suffer, maybe even die from severe pain or be killed, and yet they give birth to them. That does not mean the parents are to blame.

"I think therefore I am". But what evil could these intelligences act upon?
