I don’t believe it was the whole earth, as elsewhere it frames the Garden as surrounded by the less pleasant world.  Will add more thought later.  But yes. I know this contradicts how it has been taught.

I've explained that several times now.  The "paradisaical creation" is a stage in God's plan, but where that was and how long ago it was and the scope of it has not been explained to us.  But we do know that we are now in the fallen world, where birth and death are in operation.
