These are merely translation choices.  One is Anglo-Saxon, the other is Latin.  English is a mixture of such duplicate terms.

Yep- from the German/Anglo-Saxon we get "Geist" which becomes "Ghost" in English, and of course "Spiritus" in Latin.

Jesus is not only the intermediary, but he is the heir apparent and coregent with the Father in the same way that King Mosiah II is coregent with his father King Benjamin.  In fact, King Benjamin's Speech is the occasion of the coregency ritual in which the King makes his son active King, after which the Old King steps into the background.

I wonder then, when that time comes when Christ inherits His people from God the Father and reigns supreme, whether our prayers will be directed to Him in place of God the Father.

Until then, while the church bears His name, it sounds like all decisions regarding its affairs require final approval by Father.  Jesus may have recommended President Nelson as the prophet or he could also have been the Father's choice, either way the Father has final say to approve his calling after listening to the prayers of earthly servants and godly council members.  This also goes for how the bishop and ward presidencies fill callings.

We mustn't confuse human-level actions with divine actions.  Jesus does not need the approval of his Father because he has a perfect understanding of the Father and he is a perfect reflection of the will of the Father.  "That they all may be one; as thou, Father, art in me, and I in thee, that they also may be one in us" (Jn 17:21).  This is only possible for resurrected beings.  The Father has given Jesus all power in heaven and earth (Matt 28:18).  That is why our priesthood is the Priesthood of the Son of God, and why it is the Church of Jesus Christ.  We are still merely children of our Father, in both a spiritual and physical sense.  Once we have been victorious and have incorruptible bodies, then we will be gods ourselves.  Meantime, we are flawed human beings.  Human beings with potential.  And we must still go to the Father in the name of His Son.
