TheTanakas Posted February 16, 2021 Posted February 16, 2021 I had a question on this section of the manual. 68 - If your family needs help understanding this chapter (which corresponds to Isaiah 11), you might find insights in Doctrine and Covenants 113:1-6, in which the Prophet Joseph Smith answers some questions about Isaiah 11. What do we learn about Jesus Christ from these verses? I don't understand how Doctrine and Covenants 113:1-6 is dealing with Isaiah 11. The verses ask 3 questions about identities of people: Who is the stem of Jesse? What is the rod? What is the root of Jesse (Isaiah 11:10)? The rod is described as partly a descendant of Jesse and partly of Ephraim. I know that this excludes Jesus (of Judah). Isaiah 11:12-13 says "He will raise a signal for the nations and will assemble the banished of Israel, and gather the dispersed of Judah from the four corners of the earth. The jealousy of Ephraim shall depart, and those who harass Judah shall be cut off; Ephraim shall not be jealous of Judah, and Judah shall not harass Ephraim". What jealousy of Ephraim towards Judah would depart in the future? Pete

Pete So who is the rod?: Where in 2 Nephi 3 does Joseph (son of Israel) prophesy that Joseph (son of Lehi, of Manasseh, Alma 10:3) is the progenitor of Joseph Smith? What jealousy of Ephraim towards Judah would depart in the future?: The ancient separation and rivalry between the corrupted earthly kingdoms of Ephraim and Judah will be reconciled in the last days as Israel is gathered. 1

Jesse is the father of David, of the tribe of Judah, and the ancestor of Jesus, the Davidic King par excellence. 1 hour ago, TheTanakas said: So who is the rod? What jealousy of Ephraim towards Judah would depart in the future?........... When Isaiah wrote, Ephraim and the 10 Northern Tribes had their own kingdom with capital at Samaria. Manasseh was included in that assemblage. Judah (together with Benjamin) represented the Southern KIngdom, whom we call Jews. The jealousy between these two kingdoms was real, but is to disappear at the End Time. 1
