My daughter is presently serving and she and the other missionaries were all given the opportunity to decide to stay or go home, in counsel with their families. Quite a few went home. But, those who stayed are kept in their apartments to do missionary work through technology. So it isn't being a missionary that puts them at risk, it's having health issues and possibly picking up the virus when they have to go out to get medicine or food. Yea, it stinks, and that's why older people with health issues must be careful, but, that would be a risk just the same if they went home too. I didn't post in the realm of specificity of this being a missionary. I know it may have came off that way. I have no problem with missionaries that want to stay put as long as they aren't proselyting inside random homes. I had seen it posted and immediately wanted some alarm to be put out there that this is serious, and I felt for this missionary's shorted life and for their family and friends' loss.

My son just wrote (I just checked email) that he hasn't seen this many people in the public square for over a month (Norway is lifting their restrictions. School started back up yesterday, and businesses are reopening). Here's hoping that normalcy continues and snowballs (and, of course, that the pandemic doesn't flare up).

Me too, I'm so hoping this isn't going to blow up in all of our faces because we needed normalcy. I'm just sick with worry, because I want this pandemic over as much as the other guy. I think the church is doing their best to figure this all out, and was impressed with how quickly they got the missionaries home.
rongo Posted April 21, 2020 Author Posted April 21, 2020 Our son told us today that they are getting two elders and a sister into their mission: Norwegians serving abroad being sent home. This will be a huge help, as they were looking at being down to 30 due to attrition by August. No idea when the "greenie pipeline" will be back up and running. Hopefully by late summer, but who knows?
