don't understand, then sure, shouldn't the church use the fund to help pay welfare/fast offerings? Why must just the members donate?

I was not suggesting the Church shouldn’t dip into the fund, those in charge should know when it is necessary by requests they are getting as well as their people reporting needs worldwide; but if members want to help we can donate greater fast offerings imo.

I wonder if the church will dip into the rainy day fund and help the millions that may be affected by the virus, out of work etc.

I suppose they could, a) if they didn’t mind selling low (seeing that, based on the YTD DJIA, an investment fund worth $120 billion on New Years’ Day is probably worth $96 billion as of yesterday); and b) if they thought this virus outbreak was absolutely the worst thing that’s going to happen over the next couple of decades.

I keep hearing about a parade of horrible that’s going to happen when global climate change really picks up and coastal cities flood, forests burn uncontrollably, grasslands become deserts, rivers and streams dry up, and millions upon millions of people become refugees.  If we truly believe that such a catastrophe is impending, then we probably don’t want to unnecessarily fritter away our rainy day fund on people in the here-and-now who—for all their current misfortunes—are neither homeless nor naked nor hungry.

I continue to trust the folks whose foresight and planning actually accumulated the fund, to determine when it’s time to tap into it.  Until they choose to do so, there are probably better uses of my time than to sit around fantasizing about how other people’s money ought to be used.
