Jewish DNA in Latin America

Timeline is from 1500s on. Way to late for a BoM connection. It is sad how the Jews in Spain were faced with " convert or die" by first the Muslims and later the Catholics. Looks like it was not fun to be the " chosen people " !

https://www.theatlantic.com/science/archive/2018/12/dna-reveals-the-hidden-jewish-ancestry-of-latin-americans/578509/.  How does this relate to my understanding that there is no Israelite DNA among Native Americans?  I assume that pure Native Americans do not have those Jewish genetic markers but only those with European ancestry do?  Anyone here with more DNA expertise than I have insight into this?

The Jewish Conversos are irrelevant to the question of Israelite DNA among Amerinds.  One must study the DNA of ancient American skeletal remains (where possible) in order to say anything meaningful about Israelite DNA in ancient America.

This reminds me of the movie Defiance, the true story about a group of Jews from Bellarussia who hide out in the forest and end up creating a community of 1200 Jews in hiding.  At one point the Rabbi gathers everyone together (at the time probably only a few dozen) on Passover and while praying, asks God to choose another people.
