RS Purpose and Declaration

Much has been said about the social media fast and reading for the Book of Mormon from President Nelson's talk in the women's session, but I missed this  till yesterday when our RSP told us that women had been asking where to find the RS purpose and declaration.

Quote

My fourth invitation, for you who are of age, is to participate fully in Relief Society. I urge you to study the current Relief Society purpose statement. It is inspiring. It may guide you in developing your own purpose statement for your own life. I also entreat you to savor the truths in the Relief Society declaration published almost 20 years ago.

Here is the purpose:

Quote

Relief Society helps prepare women for the blessings of eternal life

as they:

  • Increase faith in Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ and His Atonement;
  • Strengthen individuals, families, and homes through ordinances and covenants; and
  • Work in unity to help those in need.

And the declaration:

Quote

We are beloved spirit daughters of God, and our lives have meaning, purpose, and direction. As a worldwide sisterhood, we are united in our devotion to Jesus Christ, our Savior and Exemplar. We are women of faith, virtue, vision, and charity who:

Increase our testimonies of Jesus Christ through prayer and scripture study.

Seek spiritual strength by following the promptings of the Holy Ghost.

Dedicate ourselves to strengthening marriages, families, and homes.

Find nobility in motherhood and joy in womanhood.

Delight in service and good works.

Love life and learning.

Stand for truth and righteousness.

Sustain the priesthood as the authority of God on earth.

Rejoice in the blessings of the temple, understand our divine destiny, and strive for exaltation.

I have a bazillion thoughts running through my head that I need to sort out and I am doing some other things today, but I wanted to get these up here to start some conversation.  I am curious how the purpose and statement fit what was said in conference to women this time around and am looking forward to reading the talks again and finding those things in them.

Any thoughts?

OK, I've decided to mark the talks with the highlighting available on lds.org.  I have arranged the purse and declaration between the colors, combing or taking away part of it as they fit together.  Any suggestions on how to do it differently - phrases best under a different topic?

What authority do you believe God entrusted women with?

Not the thread for this question. Create your own thread for it if interested.

Just quoting this for later so I don't forget. I've gone through 2 of the talks so far and hope to get through the rest tomorrow.

"Discontent becomes divine when we humbly approach Jesus Christ with our want, rather than hold back in self-pity."

From the Divine Discontent talk.
