"History skills" can strengthen study of Book of Mormon Witnesses

At the FairMormon Conference, Keith Erekson gave six "history skills," essentially pointers for critical thinking when examining criticisms of the Church and its history, specifically the witnesses to the Book of Mormon. Erekeson is director of the Church History Library in Salt Lake City.

Here is my summation of his talk.

house, milking cows and caring for guests while men in the household brought forth the Book of Mormon. ... Mary
was given a witness to strengthen her personal faith."

I think there are 6 or 7 volumes in History of the Church + the D&C.  Is this mentioned therein?

Not in the Doctrine and Covenants. I don't remember if it's in History of the Church.

Yes, a very good topic.

If one had History skills, one would know that John Lloyd Stephens was born in July 1805.

Joseph Smith was born in December 1805.

In 1841 John Lloyd Stephens published his book "Incidents of Travel in Central America, Chiapas, and Yucatan."

 Joseph Smith received a copy of this book in 1841 and was murdered in 1844.

And according to some BYU Professors in the 1980-1990s who have spoken and speak at the FairMormon Conference, everything Joseph Smith said about Book of Mormon geography being in North America was a complete fabrication after Joseph Smith received said book some 3 years before he was murdered.

Which makes one wonder why the Director of the Church History Library in Salt Lake City even associates with this organization.

I do not let BYU professors do my thinking for me.  ha ha ha

So, once you have wiped that grin off your face, tell us EXACTLY what JS said about North America and the geography of the BOM -- exact quotes, pleeze, not your summary.  Then be prepared to take notes.

I suggest a new thread.
