Avatar4321 Posted June 27, 2016 Posted June 27, 2016 I was reading this earlier and it struck me: And behold, I am called Mormon, being called after theland of Mormon, the land in which Alma did establish the church among the people, yea, the first church which was established among them after their transgression. (3 Nephi 5:12) what is Mormon talking about here? The first church after their transgression? What transgression? Was there a church prior to the one Alma established?

In Mosiah 11, it says that Noah "did not walk in the ways of his father. For behold, he did not keep the commandments of God, but he did walk after the desires of his own heart. ...And he did cause his people to commit sin, and do that which was abominable in the sight of the Lord. Yea, and they did commit whoredoms and all manner of wickedness. [And] thus he had changed the affairs of the kingdom. For he put down all the priests that had been consecrated by his father, and consecrated new ones in their stead, such as were lifted up in the pride of their hearts." That passage describes their transgression, and elsewhere in the chapter it is indicated that they also corruption of their religion (became idolatrous). Edited June 27, 2016 by CV75
