Even so, I get a lot from conference talks the second, third, tenth time I have heard them. I have also heard great talks built on conference talks. That Fathers talk could make a great base for a talk. That's what I'm trying to do - use it as a jumping off point. Restating the entire talk would be very dull. Do not fear - I'm am actress.... I hope I know how to make things entertaining LOL

changed Posted June 20, 2016 Author Posted June 20, 2016 (edited) I ended up kind of winging it today, but I had a few people who said they enjoyed it. -gave a funny story from my family genealogy -talked about how there is more to genealogy than just temple work, that it's the blood in our veins, and the nose on our face and that rebellious streak we have? we know which side of the family that came from too - and when we look at the pictures in our photo album we can be comforted knowing we are not alone, and there is this whole big clan of other crazy people out there who we have quite a lot in common with whether we like to admit it or not... -talked about how we all have good and bad stories in our family history -went through a personal bad story that had a happy ending, talked about how it's ok not to have a perfect family "Adam did not become our father by being perfect..." how we are all happy for Adam being imperfect and making the sacrifice that he did... that sometimes it's the imperfect things in our family that build character, and give us what we need to progress. -talked about being the "prodigal child" of the family, and talked about the qualities in my own father that made it possible for me to come home - that I knew he wouldn't judge me as much because he was imperfect too, and in the end it was his imperfections that allowed us to be close... the transition between the relationship of a child with their father, and the relationship of an adult with their father... now we see through a glass darkly - but then face to face... what it takes to put away childish things and really see one another... Finished with a discussion of our Savior's family - that it wasn't a perfect traditional family, he was raised by a step father - and what to outsiders must have looked like a questionable situation around his birth - talked about his Baptism "this is my Son in whom I am well pleased" and the debate among the apostles which ensued after this voice from heaven spoke - "this is my son??? whose son are you anyways? supposedly the son of Joseph?? and then Luke giving a different genealogy than Mathew because trying to figure out whose son thiswas- Mathew the Jew telling everyone this was the son of Abraham, Isaac, Jacob - King David - all of those famous amazing Jewish people, and Luke taking it farther back... 22 And the Holy Ghost descended in a bodily shape like a dove upon him, and a voice came from heaven, which said, Thou art my beloved Son; in thee I am well pleased. 23 And Jesus himself began to be about thirty years of age, being (as was supposed) the son of Joseph, which was the son of Heli, 24 Which was the son of Matthat, which was the son of Levi, which was the son of Melchi, which was the son of Janna, which was the son of Joseph, ..., 37 Which was the son of Mathusala, which was the son of Enoch, which was the son of Jared, which was the son of Maleleel, which was the son of Cainan, 38 Which was the son of Enos, which was the son of Seth, which was the son of Adam, which was the son of God. that I did not know if Adam and Eve had belly buttons or not - biological father or through some other process, either way it sounded like Adam was a child of God - and that made all of us grandchildren of God - not just spiritual children. What does it mean to be a child of God? Then bore my testimony that I know we have a Heavenly Father - who is tied to us in more ways than one, and is here for us on both sides of the veil. That whatever mixture of emotions might be circulating around the room about what kind of a family we all happen to have right now - somehow all things can work together for good in the end... said thank you to everyone in the room who had taken upon themselves a fatherhood role to anyone and how much it means to know there's someone there to call for help when you need it. ... bit of a non-traditional talk - should get me out of having to speak again for a few years LOL. Hope everyone had a good father's day. Edited June 20, 2016 by changed 2
VideoGameJunkie Posted June 20, 2016 Posted June 20, 2016 I had a great Father's Day. My dad came home Saturday night from the hospital after a brain operation, and I wrote him a personalized card. He's kind of loopy from the pain medication but it was great to have him home.
