I have a couple of friends who have only just found out that when they were struggling and had stopped regularly attending, the local bishops had told members that they 'didn't want to be contacted'. One friend only found this out this last week when she attended a funeral. Of course she had stated no such thing Oh, of course. Nobody ever does, do they? Quote and had wondered why nobody wanted to talk or contact her. And of course the responsibility for the miscommunication must rest squarely and exclusively with the bishop. If miscommunication it was. Is it your view that the bishops were flat-out lying? Quote I am sure this doesn't happen all the time, but there is a tendency to treat those who are struggling or doubting, especially if they are open, as pariahs. Don't you think? Since you asked: No. I don't. I think it's an apostate urban myth. And to be absolutely clear: Elder Clayton didn't advise anyone to "treat those who are struggling or doubting, especially if they are open, as pariahs." And any interpretation of his words that approaches that is unavailable to any literate English-speaker. Edited April 30, 2016 by Russell C McGregor 3

flameburns623 Posted April 30, 2016 Posted April 30, 2016 I think I may disconnect from this thread and step back from a lot of what is going on with this forum. MFBukowski, Tom NOssor and Kevin Christensen are often a profound help, and every female participant here is/are kind and supportive. Calm and GardenGirl and several others. But many of the men here who are TBM's; versus many of the guys who are cultural Mormons deeply shattered by a past or ongoing faith crisis; seem to want to do nothing helpful for each other. To show neither compassion for the hurting ones nor ask for help in a way that would motivate a well-disposed person to want to assist. They mainly want to snipe one at another. And there are clearly some who are precisely the sort of proselytizing anti-Mormon folk whom I would think the moderation team on an LDS apologetics board would want to take in hand. (Perhaps they do, more than I know: it's not my biz what happens sub rosa on the board). Anyhow, some of these interpersonal feuds are wearing on me. I'm looking for reasons and help to rebuild testimony. A lot that goes on here isn't constructive in that respect. A lot of it makes me rather sad. Although, oddly, it has been the good interactions here which have helped me begin to reflect on returning to the LDS Church. 2

Tacenda Posted April 30, 2017 Posted April 30, 2017 Flameburn's post was exactly a year ago! I don't see much of him, last I did I think he was returning to activity in the church. Or even baptism, can't remember. I'm surprised this thread wasn't locked down like so many have, to tidy up the board.
