If I may state more clearly for the record, the term "Lamanites" is actually not used in either chapter. So if we can temporarily set the term "Lamanites" aside for a moment of consideration, I propose a closer reading: 2) Consider for example 3 Nephi 21:1-7, where the promised shofar blast that the time of the gathering of a "remnant of the house of Jacob" had finally arrived was the publishing of the Nephite record to the descendants of the Nephites (the remnant of the house of Jacob), to fulfill the long-forgotten covenant promised to and recorded by their forefathers. 3) As promised repeatedly in the Nephite record, Nephites would survive into the latter days, when the Book of Mormon was translated, beginning to fulfil D&C 3, Jacob 5, the title page, and numerous other promises to our fathers. So to infer that "the remnant of the house of Jacob" is a reference only to Lamanites is not what the scriptures actually say. (In the context of all the above, consider for example Lehi's promise to Joseph in 2 Nephi 3.) 4) Finally, as to what prey is being referred to in 3 Nephi 20 & 21, for another paradigm shift, I suggest considering things such as 1 Nephi 21:25, 2 Nephi 6:17, Isaiah 58, and Isaiah 61. After that is said and done, everyone can interpret the remnant and the lions and the prey however they wish. In the meantime, I'll defer to the 11th Article of Faith for any who would want to argue, and will politely move on to greater things. Will perhaps see you all again at some point down the road.
