But even it doesn't make the full argument, just noting Dogberry (Cole) as someone who published text thus implying this was a possibility but not really asserting Dogberry would be the one to do it. Skousen argues some of the missing manuscripts for the Book of Mormon were actually stolen by Dogberry/Cole. That seems pretty speculative though. Beyond that there's really nothing to suggest Cole even had access to the 116 pages let alone was a conspirator.

Considering his subsequent involvement in obtaining a view of the printer's manuscript and publishing it, it seems to me to be an interesting possibility. He certainly had the means to pull off such a scheme, and a demonstrable interest in doing so.

The means for the Printer's manuscript was that he was working in the place where the manuscripts were stored. Going to the Harris' residency is a different situation. That he could have is of course true. Anyone could have. That he did or even thought about it has zero evidence that I'm aware of.

I remember that the source indicated strong evidence that he was in the home during that period of time. He was somehow connected to Mrs. Harris, and not just a stranger. He mentioned a specific acquaintance who had direct access to the home. The scenario is that he viewed the manuscript during a visit, and subsequently bribed/convinced his friend to take it. The Lord said the manuscript was in the hands of designing men. If Cole had it, it would certainly have given him motive to steal the printer's manuscript. Who better/worse to take advantage of the manuscript than this unscrupulous fella at a print shop? Hmm. Maybe it would be worth investigating Cole's alleged ties with Lucy Harris.
