When and how did Sunday become the Sabbath day?

For Jews Saturday is the Sabbath as it is the 7th day, the day which the Lord rested, and all the old prophets of the Bible were basically jewish who celebrated the Sabbath on what would be Saturday. So I'm wondering how and when it was changed to Sundays for us. Shouldn't we be honoring it on Saturday?

The Jewish Sabbath actually changed overtime, because they used the Lunar Calendar. As opposed to our Solar one. Also we celebrate the Lords Resurrection which was on our Sunday.

The Book of Acts in the New Testament speaks of the members of the Church gathering often on the first day of the week (Sunday) to celebrate the Lord's resurrection and to partake of the Sacrament of the Lord's supper.  They called that first day of the week "the Lord's day."

In our dispensation the Lord left no doubt. In Doctrine and Covenants 59 the Lord said that the day of the week on which the revelation was received (Sunday, August 7th, 1831) was the Lord"s Day and that from that day forward the Church would honor the sabbath on Sunday.

The Church believes we should keep the Sabbath on Sunday in general but in areas where the Sabbath is celebrated by other faiths on Saturday we often do the same.

If/When we get larger numbers of converts in Muslim countries I expect the Saints there will celebrate the Sabbath on Friday.

In other words God is not hung up about which day of the week it is. I am guessing if Christianity in general had not shifted to Sunday the Sabbath would be on Saturday for LDS too.

This. Excellent answer.
