Daniel2
We're fast approaching the most wonderful time of the year.... The Thanksgiving leftovers are just about gone, the first snowfall has finally hit the Wasatch Mountains, the roofs of our neighborhoods are aglow with strings of brightly-colored lights, and Christmas is on the horizon. Anyone else joining your ward choirs for your Christmas programs?Christmas is our favorite time of year, and my husband and I love singing the cherished Yuletide songs of our youth. We enjoy attending the annual Christmas services with our local ward, and this year we finally decided to accept the missionaries' ongoing invites to join the ward choir. We start practice this Thursday evening and we'll find out what songs we're going to sing then... can't wait! I will post them when we find out. What songs are YOU singing for your Christmas programs this year...? Edited November 30, 2015 by Daniel2 1 Link to comment
Daniel2
We had our first practice last night! :) Songs we're singing on the program: Mary's Lullaby When Joseph Went to Bethlehem (men only) The First Noel With Wondering Awe It Came Upon a Midnight Clear Joy to the World Sadly... no "Angels We Have Heard on High" (my favorite Christmas hymn in the LDS hymnal... love the harmony of the chorus!) Anyone else singing in your ward choirs this year? 1 Link to comment
Jeanne
I love them all. As a young girl, even very young, my sister and I would clean off the Thanksgiving table, put dishes in the sink, then turn to each other and smile..no words..just started singing "Sleigh Bells Ring..are you listening.."..from Winter Wonderland to to Silent Night.,,we got those dishes done in some great harmony! Good luck in your practicing! I will always love "Oh Holy Night". 2 Link to comment
Storm Rider
Daniel, you may want to see if your Stake is putting on the Messiah and is still open for more voices. I have always enjoyed joining large choirs singing the Messiah. It is just too much fun. If not your stake, look in the surrounding area churches. For those that have sung the Messiah before, an experienced voice is always wanted and appreciated. 1 Link to comment

I will check into it and let you know if I end up finding something. I'm worried we might be a bit late--but I'll see... BTW... we just returned from an enjoyable trip to Disneyland. We were surprised and delighted to serendipitously stumble across the fact that on the first weekend of December, Disneyland hosts an annual nighttime Candlelight Christmas 300-member Chorale celebration comprised of many classic, religious Christmas Carols, complete with the biblical narrative of the nativity. It was breathtaking... Also, their "Winter Dreams" World of Color fountain show has a beautiful new song called "Glow," written by composer Eric Whitacre (a contemporary composer whom, after a brief Google search, wrote many pieces of music which many of BYU's choirs have performed over the years). It's breathtakingly beautiful, and well worth a listen: Edited December 8, 2015 by Daniel2 Link to comment
deli_llama
I am not joining the ward choir, or rather, if I tried to join they would politely dis-invite me. My wife however is singing in a couple of ward choirs (unlike me, other wards call and make sure to include her). I am pretty thrilled to hear the program this year—they are using drums for The Little Drummer Boy. In sacrament meeting. In the chapel. Drums. It is like Christmas in December. Oh wait... (still, drums+in church=awesome) 2 Link to comment
