VideoGameJunkie Posted November 20, 2015 Posted November 20, 2015 Ya, but it's just embarrassing that people look at my posts and see Limited under my name. It's like I'm branded a sinner or something in public.
Bobbieaware Posted November 20, 2015 Posted November 20, 2015 Ya, but it's just embarrassing that people look at my posts and see Limited under my name. It's like I'm branded a sinner or something in public. That is a very good point. But the moderators probably forget the specific reasons why they put someone on limited years ago and just don't bother to notice that many of those those whom they placed on Limited have changed their posting style, are behaving themselves, and are making positive contributions to the board. This is why, except in the most extreme cases, there should be a periodic amnesty for most all of the participants who have been placed on Limited. After all, if those on Limited are so bad -- and one can never hope that they are capable of positive change -- why allow them any posting privileges at all? In most cases, Limited status should only be for a limited period of time -- kind of like a "time out." Thinking that people can't improve is antithetical to the Gospel. But Calm says the moderators are not guided in their decisions by Gospel principles and that it's silly to think they should be, so I guess if that's true it's unlikely things will ever change.
Calm Posted November 20, 2015 Posted November 20, 2015 (edited) just don't bother to notice that many of those those whom they placed on Limited have changed their posting style, are behaving themselves, and are making positive contributions to the board. Why do you assume that many posters on limited have changed their posting style significantly and are still not doing the same thing that got them limited? If it had been "so bad", it would have gotten them banned. You are again making assumptions about the purpose and structure of the message board. Perhaps paying more attention and looking back at the posting style of those who are limited to what they were like before they were limited might give you some insight into why the moderators chose them to put on limited and chose others to ban from threads or from the board. The majority of posters that I saw being placed on Limited were making extensive in numbers, not substance, and very repetive posts shortly before the switch came and usually weren't too responsive to the other poster but just carried on. In fact the one person I knew who got off limited status wasn't a habitual poster of such posts so that follows they accepted it was an exception to the rule. Since posters are limited they can't flood the board with the same stuff, but they can get out the material they want to get out and be quite effective if they choose to do so. While there may be a poster who has dramatically changed their material and approach while limited, the ones I've seen are still pretty much posting the same way. They get their message across imo just as effectively as they would if they had ten times as many posts. Most of the best posters imo hardly ever post over 12 posts a day. They put thought and effort into their posts. If posters want to have a positive impact, they can certainly manage to do so on 12 posts a day. Do you have evidence of these changes of those in limited you are claiming have occurred? ==================== Never understood unruly house guests that seem to enjoy turning a family dinner into something the parents are praying will end. It's like I'm branded a sinner or something in public.Would you want to change your posting style? Would getting off Limited be worth it to you? Is it just the name and attention (I would suggest if attention, that it would be a wise thing for you to not to talk about it so much as most people probably don't even notice unless someone---meaning you in your case---mentions it...which is usually the person who is on limited themselves complaining about it)? What other aspects bother you?By the way, anyone using the mobile theme (which is probably anyone on phones and many on ipads and tablets) won't see it as there is no listing but the name. Do you act this way whenever you invite yourself somewhere that belongs to someone else? It's called common courtesy, generosity and kindness. I see no harm in taking someone who has been on Limited for years and giving them another chance to see if they have matured. If they reoffend, just put them back on Limited -- no big deal. Taking someone off Limited doesn't mean they can't be put right back on it again. It's strange to be advocating for kindness and generosity and then be chided for being a crank by someone who seems to be bound by an inflexible creed of pharisaic law. Remember, this is just a discussion board, not the United States Marines. If we can't show kindness to our own sisters and brothers in the Gospel, to whom can we show kindness? To critics of the Church who indefatigably drone on and on about the General Authorities being in egregious error and the Church being out of the way?
Ares Posted November 20, 2015 Posted November 20, 2015 It takes a history to get on limited, it doesn't happen without warning, and it is very unlikely we would change the decision once it is made.
