I suggest you read your own US history of the floods of immigrants during the 1800's. Over a million Scandanavian's came by boat, as fast as the boats could carry them. Same applies to the Irish and Italians. Or actually, any cultural group from the European continent. Chinese were brought in as contract (slave) labourers.

Germany, as of last night, has declared that they expect 10,000 refugees in the next few days.

I see on the news that the tiny Greek island of Lesbos off the coast of Turkey, now has 25,000 refugees (Lesbos population in 85,000). I've been to Lesbos. The island is small and sparsely populated. There is no way the island can cope. Other countries need to stand up and take the burden.

The tiny island of Lampadusa, south of Sicily, has received ove 100,000 refugees. Some have stayed, some are still in refugee camps, most have moved to the Italian mainland. Italy wants help. Italy needs help.

The refugees are not just out for a Sunday stroll. They fear for their lives. They walk, ride or turn to smugglers but most have no food or water but rely on help from people along the way.

Think of it this way. One morning you awake to 200 people standing outside your house, in desparate need of food, water, warmth, shelter, or just a shower or a chance to have clean clothes.

Is there no room in the Inn?

Uncontrolled immigration can bring instability in a country and may result in the population turning against them.  Also how many ISIS fighters are among them.   I understand that many are suffering but we need to consider the consequences as well.  It is sort of like having a boat out at sea and you are trying to rescue a bunch of people in the water.  Take on too many people and you risk taking down your boat.  I just see nationalistic groups forming in Europe as a result of it.  Would not be the first time in Europe.

I don't think the Church itself can do much in this situation until things are settled down.  The situation keeps changing and multiple countries are involved and each country having its own laws and policies of how to handle it.

What you are doing is fear mongering. We(The US) could take in 3 million and that would still constitute less than 1% of our population. While we(The US) didn't start the problems in Syria. We(The US) has fed the flames of sectarian and secular violence in Syria and the middle East. ISIS is a creation of the US. We have our own nationalistic groups/problems here in the US.

If the good people of Iceland can volunteer to take in thousands of refugees. The Saints can too.

I am not fear mongering.  I am not against taking in refugees.  I am just saying that immigration needs to be controlled and kept at reasonable levels.  Given the current political climate of the millions of illegal aliens already in the US, I don't think adding millions more from the Middle East will go over very well.
