BookofMormonLuvr Posted August 12, 2015 Posted August 12, 2015 As we know, the Nephites kept the Law of Moses, including the building of temples for the daily sacrifices and burnt offerings. My question is:According to the Central America Model what animals were used in these daily sacrifices and various burnt offerings?Amberli Nelson has a presentation in which to says that the animals required for sacrifices and burnt offerings would have only been found in North America. Is there any evidence of the clean animals necessary being found in ancient Central America?Thank you.

Paradox_58 Posted August 12, 2015 Posted August 12, 2015 In Mexico as well as Central America, natives had domesticated deer which was used for meat and possibly even milk. Domesticated turkeys were common in Mesoamerica and in some regions of North America; they were valued for their meat, feathers, and, possibly, eggs. BookofMormonLuvr Posted August 12, 2015 Author Posted August 12, 2015 I guess since I referenced it I should post the video of the presentation by Sis. Amberli:
Paradox_58 Posted August 12, 2015 Posted August 12, 2015 As a history student, I studied some Pre-Columbian history of Central America, with a Guatamalan, non-LDS professor. He blasted the LDS for their version of historical events in Latin America for two full hours. The rest of the semester he then went on to teach the events of the BoM without the religious frame. Interestingly, one of my classmates, also non-LDS, based on the information presented, went on to write her thesis on the idea that Jesus Christ must have appeared in the Americas to the pre-Columbian people of Meso-America. While I have read and viewed many videos relating to the North American model, there are too many missing pieces for me. Although the Meso-American model is also missing a few pieces, it fits together much better with my ongoing study/read of the BoM.

But you do realize that the visitation of a bearded white God is not exclusive to Central America, right?Anyways, I believe Amberli raises a question that HAS to be addressed for any proposed model, if we accept the internal narrative that the Nephites offered the sacrifices and burnt offerings of the Law of Moses. ksfisher Posted August 12, 2015 Posted August 12, 2015 All of this seems to be supposing that the Law of Moses cannot be adopted by the Lord to the circumstances of a people living outside of the Levant.

And doing a general search of "sheep" in the Book of Mormon makes no mention of the Nephites actually possessing sheep, the only possessive sense is found in Ether.Though not convinced, I will award you a rep point.
BookofMormonLuvr Posted August 12, 2015 Author Posted August 12, 2015 So, with the llama possibility, the question comes down to whether or not llama are in the camel family, and whether the Nephites would've identified them as such- because the LORD clearly calls camels "unclean".

Zakuska Posted August 12, 2015 Posted August 12, 2015 Yes, Bison & Horse Fossils have been found in the Yucatanian submerged caves homogeneous to lithic mayan tools. At Loltún, fossil bones of American horse (Equus conversidens) and extinct bison (Bison antiquus) were recovered from layers that also contain lithic tools http://www.academia.edu/3610859/The_Arrival_of_Humans_on_the_Yucatan_Peninsula_Evidence_from_Submerged_Caves_in_the_State_of_Quintana_Roo_Mexico
Kenngo1969 Posted August 13, 2015 Posted August 13, 2015 This is off-topic, BookofMormonLuvr, but re: your signature line, why would your wife rather go to an outhouse and hear the fullness of the Gospel, then, afterward, go to church in a beautiful building and not hear it? That seems rather strange. (If you wonder what the h-e-double-hockey-sticks I'm talkin' about, there's a difference between "then" ... i.e., "at that time, or after some other specified event" ... and "than," which is a word often used in comparisons, and which I believe is the word you and your wife are lookin' for. Just sayin'! Sorry. Couldn't resist! We now return you to your on-topic, regularly-scheduled programming. 2
