The areas in both Turkey and Central Asia are predominantly Muslim, and relatively untouched (only five branches for the entire mission!). 4
sjdawg Posted April 26, 2015 Posted April 26, 2015 I'll be interested to see how the missionaries are received in the Muslim countries. I am living in the Middle East right now and I don' think Christian missionaries proselytizing would go very well. It is illegal where I am but Turkey is a little more open
Rain Posted April 26, 2015 Posted April 26, 2015 (edited) Oh wow! That is interesting! My son's friend had his papers in last September and then he waited and waited for his call. When his bishop asked about it he was told that they weren't ready yet. He finally got it in February and will be going in June. His call: Bulgaria Sofia mission. "In addition to your calling to share the gospel, you will be assigned to serve in the Turkey Mission Region". His father is Lebanese and he was born in Lebanon and spent the first few years of his life there. Edited April 26, 2015 by Rain 1
Rain Posted April 26, 2015 Posted April 26, 2015 (edited) OK, just talked with my daughter. She reminded me that he has dual citizenship (if we remember right). I just looked at wiki and it says: Even though Lebanese nationality law permits multiple citizenship, a Lebanese national who also holds another country's citizenship may be required to renounce the foreign citizenship, under the foreign country's nationality law. A dual Lebanese-Japanese national must, for instance, make a declaration of choice, to the Japanese Ministry of Justice, before turning 22, as to whether he or she wants to keep the Lebanese or Japanese citizenship. Even with the wait he will be under 22 when he returns home. I wonder if all that will come into play by the end of his mission. Edited April 26, 2015 by Rain
