juliann Posted February 10, 2015 Posted February 10, 2015 The false equivalency here rests in treating a Catholic priest like a Mormon priesthood holder. They are NOT the same thing. Just about every Mormon male above the age of 12 is a priesthood holder while only, say, 1 in a 1,000 Catholics are priests. A more apt comparison would be to compare a Catholic priest to a Mormon BISHOP. In that case, I would wholeheartedly agree that a Mormon bishop should have to step down from his post for public opposition to the Church's stance. It is a valid comparison because it is as close as we are able to get. Each religion is going to have its own way of establishing credentials. Another for Mormons (which I have always thought really silly) is the "5th generation Mormon" announcement that is apparently supposed to give extra insider knowledge or something. Why does it matter to you what Catholics do? If they did excommunicate more people would that make a whit of difference in your feelings about this particular excommunication? 1
juliann Posted February 10, 2015 Posted February 10, 2015 Imagine the outrage if I started a non-profit counselling center to assist Anti-Mormons from the grip of the MSM and similar cults. Well, some people would say that was the church. LOL Do you remember the exit counselors in the heyday of the anti-cult fervor before they got in trouble for kidnappings? Most have gone out of business but there are still some evangelical types that cleaned it up and are very similar to what Dehlin does. 2
