blooit Posted December 11, 2014 Posted December 11, 2014 (edited) Secularism. When are we gonna chalk up all scripture as fiction? I think there is more to it than that. Judaism had so misinterpreted scripture that when the long awaited Savior had come, they completely missed it. Even his closest disciples largely misunderstood his resurrection in three days. I think we are similarly influenced by 2000 years of christian traditions, which are often correct, but also often incorrect. When I view scripture as objectively as I can (as if objectivity is even possible) - I often do not believe it says what many people say it does. If scripture truly stood on its own - there wouldn't be so much disagreement and such divergent interpretations. Edited December 11, 2014 by blooit
thesometimesaint Posted December 11, 2014 Posted December 11, 2014 Thats why they have the evolution packet which basically informstudents that what they teach about evolution is contradiction of official church doctrine. Have a nice day. Then why does BYU have one of the best university Paleontological Departments and Museum's in the world? There is no requirement for any university to have a paleontological department or museum let alone one of the best. I'm sure that Ken Ham would just love to set up one of his Creationist Museums on a BYU campus. For better or worse I don't have nice days any more. My days are spent in constant pain punctuated by drug induced stupors. I'm not suicidal, but will not miss this life once I leave it.

Look, we both know that the evolution BYU teaches is not in harmony with current church teachings regarding the origin of man. Lets just agree with those facts and move on already.

Maybe I need to read through this thread a little bit better... but I really don't see the church teaching much as far as the origins of man. I had thought that the first presidency and quorum of the 12 had debated this nearly a century ago and come to no conclusion. I just don't see the conflict between what the church teaches and evolution.

The church official position and teaching is that man is not the end result of evolution from a lower order of animals. https://www.lds.org/ensign/2002/02/the-origin-of-man?lang=eng
