Lds Historical Fiction Publishers

So I wrote an LDS historical fiction that I spent a couple of years researching. Deseret said they don't have the time or resources to commit (rejection letter nonetheless). So now I don't want to see this manuscript put on a shelf and no one able to ever read it. I have a degree in American history and have published several fiction books on Kindle, and I may yet go this route, but I just wanted to see if there were any other LDS fiction publishers that would take a lengthy book about historical fiction geared for Young Men.

To give you an idea, the work is about two Mormon boys (18) from Kingston on their way to Salt lake City during the Great Florence Fit Out of 1861 (during the out break of the Civil War). Having deceased or separated British military fathers they decide to enlist in the First Nebraska Volunteer Infantry Regiment in Omaha (Sergeant Matthews, a real life Mormon who joined a Nebraska Regiment in Omaha is my reference for plausibility). The regiment was raised to guard the forts in Nebraska while the federal troops fight in the east. So the boys figure they can help raise money for their families while stationed near the trail west. However, the commanding officer of the regiment betrays the men and takes them east to fought the southerners (true story). Banding together like a couple of missionaries, the boys endure the rigors of initial training, fighting guerrillas in Missouri, then onto the Battle of Fort Donelson while gaining the trust and companionship of the men in their squad, including a grizzled old sergeant. While they are away, their family settles in pioneer Logan under the threat of Indian attack. This is the first book of a series.

Now I researched this book meticulously, with soldiers' diaries, letters, regimental histories, reports, regimental rosters, from historical collections, National Archives, and works of historians. The book is geared for Youth, particularly boys, as I used to teach school and know about the shortage of good books for boys. It is filled with seminary scriptures and there are female strong leads for Young Women. There is some violence, it is about war, but not gratuitous.

I hope to get this out there. I do have Kindle novels that get good ratings, and I can certainly do that, but I was hoping there was another venue that someone might know.

Shadow Mountain and Cedar Fort both publish LDS historical fiction.

 

Shadow Mountain is an imprint of Deseret Book now, same company.

But Cedar Fort might be a good choice.  Signature Books are also a option, they do more non-fiction, but have done fiction too.

 

There aren't a whole lot of other options for LDS fiction.  If it were non-fiction you might have more options.

Self publishing is an option. I am reading Help Thou My Unbelief by Nancy Phippen Browne. It looks like she self published and I really enjoy the book. Occasional things I don't agree with.
