The Nehor Posted September 8, 2014 Posted September 8, 2014 Yeah, graphene is neat and prospects are good but this is probably still at least a decade from practical application. There are a number of engineering hurdles to surmount and we need a way to mass-produce it relatively cheaply. Last I heard it was costing about $70 for a square inch of the stuff.
Brian 2.0 Posted September 8, 2014 Posted September 8, 2014 Is it the same stuff that is made by using PC DVD burners, making a layer of it on a "cd" using the laser in the burner?

Two important ways that we impact the earth today are by living beyond the earth’s means and by altering the balance among global systems. These impacts are explained below" http://rsc.byu.edu/archived/stewardship-and-creation/12-how-can-church-members-increase-their-environmental-awareness

Economics of scale. Who knows Mr. Musk may become the next Henry Ford.
The Nehor Posted September 8, 2014 Posted September 8, 2014 Economics of scale. Who knows Mr. Musk may become the next Henry Ford. You need the technique to manufacture or process before economies of scale kick in. I hope it does end up working out and think there is a good chance it will. It will almost certainly take a few years to a few decades.

MormonFreeThinker Posted September 9, 2014 Posted September 9, 2014 Most climate scientists are saying that humans are causing Global Warming, it is very hard to find some that are still skeptical, but it is easy to find the climate scientists that are saying that Global Warming is real. MormonFreeThinker Posted September 10, 2014 Posted September 10, 2014 (edited) She's one of the few women that can pull off the right to bare arms. Global Warming is very serious, children in Africa are going to suffer serious consequences, all because anti-Global Warming people cannot even consider Global Warming as a possibility, not even a small possibility, it is just so sad that many members of our church are 100% certain that Global Warming is a hoax. "Africa: By 2020, between 75 and 250 million people are projected to be exposed to increased water stress; yields from rain-fed agriculture could be reduced by up to 50 percent in some regions by 2020; agricultural production, including access to food, may be severely compromised" http://climate.nasa.gov/effects/ Edited September 10, 2014 by MormonFreeThinker

Global Warming is a serious problem not just for poor countries, but rich ones as well. Much of the western US is under severe drought brought on largely through changes in global weather patterns. IE; California crops help feed the world, so any increase in price because of the lack of water makes an already bad situation worse here and much worse in poor countries. So yes it is a man made problem, and has man made solutions. Ps; When we wanted to go to the moon we fortunately didn't consult with the Flat Earth Society or Joseph Fielding Smith. MormonFreeThinker Posted September 10, 2014 Posted September 10, 2014 (edited) It is very sad that many members of my church fall for the global warming propaganda. What are your sources? Where are the climate scientists that are saying that? I can name many climate scientists (that have a university profile) that disagree with your conclusion. You are 100% certain, I am not, but I am humble enough to listen to the climate scientists. What if you are wrong? Don't you care about the children in Africa? To you, isn't global warming at least a small possibility? Global Warming can also be a religious topic, but it is primarily scientific. Vance Posted September 10, 2014 Posted September 10, 2014 Man made global warming/climate change is a hoax. They have to keep throwing out non compliant data from their models to maintain the farce. How many more years without temperature rises will it take before they admit the hoax? We are already up to 16. 2

Vance Posted September 10, 2014 Posted September 10, 2014 PS TV meteorologists are not climatologists, meteorology is a different field. So, evidence of the hoax must be ignored? I have heard that "weather" is what is happening outside and the "climate" is the clothes you have in your closet". Well guess what? The types of clothes in my closet are the same as when I was a child. That was back before there was the "We're headed into a new ice age" scare of the early 70's. It was a hoax back then too.
MormonFreeThinker Posted September 10, 2014 Posted September 10, 2014 (edited) And I have about 20 more if you need more. It is extremely easy to find websites in Google, anti-mormons do the same thing, what about reliable websites? Here is a small list of Climatologists that are saying that man made global warming is real, I can make the list a lot bigger if I had the time, Can you do the same? "Look for sources by recognized and respected historians, whether they’re members of the Church or not" - Elder Snow. That also applies to Science. "there is now a very clear pattern in the scientific evidence documenting that the earth is warming, that warming is due largely to human activity, that warming is causing important changes in climate, and that rapid and potentially catastrophic changes in the near future are very possible." - Dr Lonnie G. Thompson, PaleoclimatologyUniversity Profile http://www.geology.ohio-state.edu/faculty_bios.php?id=52 "I think that the debate is happening around the world. It’s not a debate, though, in the science community. There’s no debate at all there. The scientists know that human influences are creating greenhouse gases and these are warming the earth" - Dr. Peter H Hildebrand, Atmospheric scientistNASA profile http://science.gsfc.nasa.gov/sed/index.cfm?fuseAction=people.jumpBio&&iphonebookid=18883 "As we add carbon dioxide to the atmosphere, we're creating warming that would last more than a thousand years – even if we suddenly stopped emitting." - Dr. Gabriele C. Hegerl, Professor of Climate System Science University Profile http://www.ed.ac.uk/schools-departments/geosciences/people?indv=1613 "When we see records being broken and unprecedented events, the onus is on those who deny any connection to climate change to prove their case. Global warming has fundamentally altered the background conditions that give rise to all weather. In the strictest sense, all weather is now connected to climate change." Dr. Kevin E. Trenberth, Senior Scientist in the Climate Analysis SectionUniversity Profile http://www.cgd.ucar.edu/staff/trenbert/ Update: I have given a look to some of your websites, you clearly do not understand Climate Science. You wrote, "That was back before there was the "We're headed into a new ice age" scare of the early 70's. It was a hoax back then too."That was what the media was saying, not what most Scientific papers were saying. There were two possibilities, some 1970s papers predicted cooling, but most 1970s papers predicted Global Warming. Now in 2014, we have more than enough evidence.
