I guess that's customary around here.Another helpful source which affixes some blame on the government is Bancroft's History of Utah, and which absolves Brigham Young. Further, according to my Justice Department correspondence which Bancroft, Bagley and Brooks lacked, the government just could not find any evidence against Brigham Young. It tried for 10 years after Lee's conviction to find it, although Young died in the mid 70s.Thus, if federal marshals could not find the evidence, I just don't see it. Why haven't you, or Scott, or ErayE, after repeated request, provided a single shred of documentation regarding the thought of Harney and the rising tension. If you are so sure that appointment of Harney is the "one of the most significant factors behind the ultimate atrocity at Mountain Meadows", then surely such a claim can be substantiated in the journals or news papers of the day. Where is the evidence? Where is the evidence that fear of Harney contributed to MMM? Did Haight, Lee or the 50+ other mention Harney as a reason? Can you provide some evidence?

My position remains fixed. There have been no inconsistencies in my position. I think my views are consistent with most massacre historians. They point to the Gunnison affair, the Harney appointment, and so forth. Read Sally Denton's book; she starts with the Gunnison affair. 1
