Rob Osborn Posted June 5, 2014 Posted June 5, 2014 Show me, using scientific reasoning why its outside of science to observe or test if there is another planet in the universe that is inhabited by people of our same order?
jkwilliams Posted June 5, 2014 Posted June 5, 2014 Show me, using scientific reasoning why its outside of science to observe or test if there is another planet in the universe that is inhabited by people of our same order? That's an entirely different question as to whether it's possible to determine the existence of an all-powerful exalted human, wherever He happens to reside.
Gray Posted June 5, 2014 Posted June 5, 2014 Show me, using scientific reasoning why its outside of science to observe or test if there is another planet in the universe that is inhabited by people of our same order? That would demonstrate the existence of aliens, not the existence of a supreme being 1
Gray Posted June 5, 2014 Posted June 5, 2014 (edited) But according to LDS theology God has a body as tangible as mans, lives in our universe, and resides on a planet. Is this scientifically testable? You bet! It doesnt necessarily mean we will find him but it certainly is testable. If you can convince God to appear for testing purposes, you might have something there. Of course that concept of God is just one of thousands. Edited June 5, 2014 by Gray
Rob Osborn Posted June 5, 2014 Posted June 5, 2014 That's an entirely different question as to whether it's possible to determine the existence of an all-powerful exalted human, wherever He happens to reside. How so? We are told God is a person of flesh and bones just like us, resides on a planet, etc.
Gray Posted June 5, 2014 Posted June 5, 2014 How so? We are told God is a person of flesh and bones just like us, resides on a planet, etc. We're also told that God only appears personally to people very rarely, and is otherwise unseen.
thesometimesaint Posted June 5, 2014 Posted June 5, 2014 Show me, using scientific reasoning why its outside of science to observe or test if there is another planet in the universe that is inhabited by people of our same order? Order in biology is a broader classification than species.http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Order_%28biology%29 People would be evidence for an ET. Something we've been scientifically looking for since Tuesday, November 20, 1984. So far none has been discovered.

So then, its nice to see you acknowledge that viable scientific organizations are indeed searching, testing and observing using scientific means to find other life forms in the universe. And you said it wasnt testable...

And you said it wasnt testable... I've never said it wasn't testable. We just have no evidence for it at present. Who knows maybe they have visited during Comic-com, and no one noticed. However that isn't allowable scientific evidence for them. Also who knows later today we may get copies of "To Serve Man"SEE http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/To_Serve_Man_%28The_Twilight_Zone%29
morganfj Posted June 8, 2014 Posted June 8, 2014 No, there are no conclusive evidences against a Local Geography , their are some gaps, but it doesn't mean scholars will never solve them. It's like making a god of the gaps argument. For example, "steel" in the 19th century (and before) English can also mean "extreme hardness" or "offensive weapons" Webster's 1828 dictionary of American English: STEEL, n. [G.]1. Iron combined with a small portion of carbon; iron refined and hardened, used in making instruments, and particularly useful as the material of edged tools. It is called in chemistry, carburet of iron; but this is more usually the denomination of plumbago.2. Figuratively, weapons; particularly, offensive weapons, swords, spears and the like...4. Extreme hardness; as heads or hearts of steel. Loan-shifting has occurred throughout history. Some of the Maya called the European horses and donkeys "tapirs" because, at least according to one observer, they looked so similar If Book of Mormon horses are tapirs, then the problem is solved. The Book of Mormon never describes horses pulling chariots, and 3 Ne 3:22 suggest they didn't. 3 Nephi 3:22 "they had taken their horses, and their chariots, and their cattle, and all their flocks, and their herds, and their grain, and all their substance" If Book of Mormon horses are horses(but small and not very useful), it doesn't mean we will never have conclusive evidence. For example, in 1974 Terracotta Warriors and Horses were discovered, but before 1974 there was no conclusive evidence. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Terracotta_Army#Background http://en.fairmormon.org/Book_of_Mormon/AnachronismsSorry.. just joined,, but it worries me when "MormonFreeThinker" edited a post with no reason quoted... IS THIS GROUP open to non-Mormons without "Editing or Revision? I read the 10 Commandments of posting but think edited post should give reason like the one stating "Temple Material" I don't understand this but at least a reason was given.
morganfj Posted June 8, 2014 Posted June 8, 2014 After reading these. it appears an exercise in futility. One person arguing FAITH in Science from a world view another arguing his FAITH in his Beliefs of God. Both worship at a different alter. But the argument on BoM were best addressed with the Horse argument... There were no horses before the Spanish. So references are wrong which is a problem in any inspired book This problem with; the Pre-Iron Age cultures portrayed as Iron age people are just a couple of problems I would prefer seeing on this post ABOUT "Problems in the Book of Mormon".

Welcome to the Glass Menagerie. This board is open to everyone, but geared towards the LDS perspective. Quoting or linking to Temple Material is verboten for the simple reason those of us that have our Endowments can not respond beyond general clarifications.

Like all discussion boards subjects tend to wander. As to horses in the Americas before the Spanish invasion. There are tantalizing clues, but nothing definite at this point. For people of faith it remains a possibility.
morganfj Posted June 8, 2014 Posted June 8, 2014 I would tend to disagree. There is literally mountains of evidence for a flood. All over the world we see sedimentary layers that were laid down in the water. Not only that but evidences of mass death that happened at the same time trapping their remains in those sedimentary layers.Absolutely correct but overlooked due to interpretation of "Layers"... There is quit a bit of new info, however, this will be completely disregarded by those who have their minds set.
