Gervin Posted January 22, 2014 Posted January 22, 2014 Nah.NT Christians believed a lot more of the NT than you might imagine. They believed and understood verses like,Rom. 6:16 Know ye not, that to whom ye yield yourselves servants to obey, his servants ye are to whom ye obey; whether of sin unto death, or of obedience unto righteousness?Acts 5:32 And we are his witnesses of these things; and so is also the Holy Ghost, whom God hath given to them that obey him.Rom 2:6 Who will render to every man according to his deeds:7 To them who by patient continuance in well doing seek for glory and honour and immortality, eternal life:Heb. 5:9 And being made perfect, he became the author of eternal salvation unto all them that obey him;1 Cor. 7:19 Circumcision is nothing, and uncircumcision is nothing, but the keeping of the commandments of God.Matt. 19:17 And he said unto him, Why callest thou me good? there is none good but one, that is, God: but if thou wilt enter into life, keep the commandments.1 Jn. 2:3 And hereby we do know that we know him, if we keep his commandments. If you read closer you'll see that I used the word believe (present tense) not believed (past tense); I was referring, generally, to Christian churches today distinguised from the LDS Church. With regard to the Bible verses, I have no idea what point you're trying to make.
Vance Posted January 22, 2014 Posted January 22, 2014 I asked for a Church, not an individual, but even this example doesn't pass muster. This guy obviously feels a calling to minister to LDS on the very topic that is the subject of this thread, but I also notice he says (my emphasis), To see the stark difference between Mormonism and biblical Christianity, think of what the emphasis would be if this chapter on staying on the Lord’s side of the line was written by a Bible believing Christian. It would revolve around how Jesus, through his shed blood, saved us and how the Holy Spirit, through creating faith in our hearts, put us on the Lord’s side of the line. It would then emphasize the importance of staying in the faith – the importance of always trusting that Jesus did everything for us – including keeping the commandments. Instead of putting the spotlight on us, it would put the spotlight on Jesus. That is what true churches of Jesus Christ do.So, he is not epousing a "do nothing" approach post-salvation. It makes me wonder if you even read what you highlighted. "the importance of always trusting that Jesus did everything for us – including keeping the commandments" Clearly conveys the message that we are not required to do ANYTHING for salvation.

Your way of distinguishing other Christian churches from the LDS Church is lacking. With regard to the Bible verses, I have no idea what point you're trying to make.Of course not.

Pick a fight with someone else.
Vance Posted January 23, 2014 Posted January 23, 2014 I asked for a Church, not an individual, . . .In the EV system (if you can call it that) of churches, any individual with a desire, can start a (using your terminology) New Testament church.
Tacenda Posted January 23, 2014 Posted January 23, 2014 (edited) In the EV system (if you can call it that) of churches, any individual with a desire, can start a (using your terminology) New Testament church.I use to be all for the church's organizational prowess, but now I see that messiness or letting whomever start a church based on the NTcan lead to people not really giving too much obedience to a church and it's leaders but only to the one above, but still living the "love thy neighbor" theme, having good programs etc. So one true faith, but not one true religion. Btw, I shared Ravi's talk while visiting teaching yesterday, I'm so glad the theme for VT'g for the year is on Jesus Christ. Edited January 23, 2014 by Tacenda
followerofemmanuel Posted February 4, 2014 Posted February 4, 2014 I really appreciated watching the video on youtube...although it was long. I wish I could have been there. I really appreciated Elder Holland's welcoming words. Ravi's lecture emphasized the reality of the way our culture is shifting..."to introduce lies, the truth must first be silenced" -culture does not want to hear that there are absolute moral truths.. I believe that we are stronger together in protecting our religious freedoms and working together, we can strengthen the moral fiber of our culture. I would be proud to stand with my LDS friends in Christ for truth, freedom and for Christ . 2
