A Post From A Another Board

This post was just made on another board, primarily BYU sports related, but with a religion category. It was moving to me, and thoght that us nice folks here at MDDB would enjoy it as well:

Power of Godliness Manifest in the Ordinances

I had a great weekend where I saw a niece of mine marry in the Albuquerque temple. This niece of mine is very close to our family and she has been a great example to my kids. She has been an example of staying faithful, being strong etc.

ABout 2 minutes before they couple came into the sealing room- I looked over at my sister who was directly across from me. She had been smiling and beaming right before, but now tears filled her eyes and were streaming down her cheeks. I mouthed to her "Are you Ok?" and she mouthed back- "Mom just got here". Mom- my mother- died just over 2 years ago and left that big hole that all of us feel when we lose a parent. My dad died 21 years ago and is still missed today.

In speaking to my sister afterwords- she said I could tell the moment Momma and Daddy came into the room. She was absolutely right. Right after the living filled that room- you could feel the room fill with spirits of family that had gone on before. They were so discernable as individuals, not just the feeling of the Spirit. It was so good to feel these people I loved so much so very close. The generations were linked right there in that room- just like they were being linked in sealing rooms around the world.

In that moment of clarity it was reconfirmed to me again- this is not a game we are playing here. This is not an acedemic or philosophical excercise. This is the work of the Lord and He is very close to it. There are some things that really matter here - and many that do not. The key is to not get caught up in the thick of thin things. The power manifest in the ordinances of the priesthood brought me back into perspective again.

Wasn't clear if this was a post by someone you knew or were related to -- alter idem seems to have gotten this impression -- but was it your niece or was this a post by someone else on the other board?

Not my niece, don't know the poster. Posted on of all places, cougarboard.com. They do have quite a interesting religion category, though the...tenor...of the posts there is usually a bit different. And before you can access the religion category, you must become a "donor", by paying ten bucks-or more, if you want-to support the website. If not, you are free to post, but not about religious topics. Makes an amazingly effective filter, there is hardly a critic over there.

My parents are still in their second estate, though Dad will probably not be for long. But the last paragraph really impressed and touched me. I really enjoy the give and take here, especially over in General Discussions, but sometimes, well, sometimes we might be well served to read that last paragraph.
