65 Tony Awards

I just watched this on utube : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GVJgmp2T... re=related that was just sung at the Tony awards. I have listened to some of the songs on the radio a while back but wondered if any of you saw the Musical live and what you thought.

I just realized it won the Tony for the best musical last night. This was kind of funny at the end when they accept the award:

Just goes to show we Mormons don't do anything half way. Not even being parodied.

I haven't heard any other songs except this one. But if this is an example... the play's popularity and awards would be more based on how much fun it is to make fun of Mormons than out of some great quality in music and lyric.

I wonder if it would have been as fun if they would have just used actual LDS doctrine rather than the usual drivel that the typical Evangelist peddles? Jesus has a planet? I have never heard that one specifically, but when the objective is parody facts tend to fall by the wayside.

I wonder how Christians feel about the tone when talking about the creator of the universe and that Jesus' blood was shed for each of us?

Here's the opening number from the musical "The Book of Mormon" (opening the Tony's). Does this remind anyone of their mission?

They should have gone for the laugh in the beginning by having one of the celebrities let them come in.

We went the whole 12 rounds on this last year, so at risk of starting the same conversation again, I'll just note that even Mormons can get the doctrine wrong when it comes to producing dramatic productions. And I'm much more disturbed by the stuff "The Book of Mormon" gets right than what it gets wrong.

In fact, as an LDS, I wish they had gotten much more wrong.

Also here and here.

There's some confusion going on here. The Book of Mormon won Best Musical last year. The song 'I Believe' was performed last year.

'Hello' was the opener this year, introducing Neil Patrick Harris as host.
