Temple Work

Yesterday we were talking about Temple work, and I asked what happens to those who have no living relatives to submit their names or do work for them.

Someone said that it's been revealed that they'll all have work done for them, but couldn't say where (or to whom) this was revealed.

Does anyone know?

(They said they were sure it had been revealed thru modern revelation, to living prophets.)

This will get you started- there seems to be a fair amount of info here, if you follow the references:

http://www.lds.org/s...ennium?lang=eng

During the Millennium, all people on the earth will be good and just, but many will not have received the fulness of the gospel. Consequently, members of the Church will participate in missionary work.

Members of the Church will also participate in temple work during the Millennium. The Saints will continue to build temples and receive ordinances in behalf of their kindred dead. Guided by revelation, they will prepare records of their ancestors all the way back to Adam and Eve.

This might help as well.

Thank you, but I don't see anything about people who don't have any living relatives.

What about 13th century monks and nuns like St. Francis and St. Clair (and all the others in their orders)?

What about those who died during the black plague (without leaving sons or daughters)?

What about the Jaredites and Nephites?

What descendants will they have to do their work?

I don't think you have be related to a person in order to receive any ordinances on their behalf. As far submitting their names goes, God will provide a way.

All is recorded in heaven and at the appropriate time, the names of all whose whose records have been lost will be revealed. It is just that simple.

Correct obviously. We in fact only rarely do work for our actual relatives. I guess I forget that that might not be obvious to someone who has not been in a temple yet.

It says this

During the Millennium, all people on the earth will be good and just, but many will not have received the fulness of the gospel. Consequently, members of the Church will participate in missionary work.

Members of the Church will also participate in temple work during the Millennium. The Saints will continue to build temples and receive ordinances in behalf of their kindred dead. Guided by revelation, they will prepare records of their ancestors all the way back to Adam and Eve.

I guess what is not obvious here is that we also do work for those to whom we are not related.

But even if you think about it a little bit, the belief is that "every knee shall bow and every tongue confess that Jesus is the Christ". I personally think that virtually everyone will join the church- I mean if Jesus is personally leading the government, and the New Jerusalem is in Missouri, and the prophet is the Mormon prophet, it will be fairly obvious which church is "correct"

So I think there will be no problem in finding someone in the family- now resurrected presumably- who has joined the church, to find other descendants to do the work, even though it is unnecessary to have one's actual relatives do it. Of course this is a literal interpretation.

Inquiring, we go to the temple much more often than we find new relatives to do work for- so of course we do work for others who are not our relatives.

Edit: It is also the belief that should someone want their work done, they might just appear to a member as a spirit during the Millenium and essentially say "Hey- I am Wong Chu- I lived in China in 5,000 BC and I want my work done". That sort of thing is consistent with the beliefs.

Yes, every name will be revealed, as God would want them to be, that they will =).
