zerinus Posted February 20, 2012 Posted February 20, 2012 St Paul talks about "entertaining angels unawares" (Hebrews 13:2). Do you thing that angels might come help people occasionally, without disclosing their identity? Do you thing that the rescuer of this little girls might have been an angel?
LeSellers Posted February 20, 2012 Posted February 20, 2012 Given that "angels" are, in Greek, "messengers", it seems possible or likely. All the Three Nephite stories are angelic assistance, in my view. Moroni tells us that he and his father both received the ministration from these translated beings, but it is likely that they knew who they were. At least some of the time.Abraham didn't recognize the three men as angels (at least there is no mention of his doings in Genesis), and one of them may have been Jehoavah Himself.Balaam couldn't see the angel who saved his life until the a$s spoke up about him. Those pioneers in the Willie and Martin handcarft companies claimed that angels must have been pushing their handcarts because they, themselves, could not have made it without help. 17 Miracles portrays these angelic ministrants as being those who'd died earlier on the trek, but that's probably just cinematic license.I vote in favor of entertaining angels unawares: I can't say it's happened to me, but, had it, would I know?Lehi
Duncan Posted February 20, 2012 Posted February 20, 2012 This is an area I am honestly in the dark about and don't know what to believe. I don't have the figures before me but thousands of people kill themselves every year and where was their angel or messenger? I don't get how some people get an angel or messenger for comparitevly minor things as opposed to someone ODing to death or whatever and where was the rescue for them?

Angels exist and are more busy than we might ever know or realize. Everything works at a much higher level of urgency. I wish that each of us might be more aware of angels, but just as we ignore the Holy Spirit, so we ignore angels. Do people kill themselves; yes, and ignore all the promptings and opportunities to turn aside as they descend into the pit of dispair. Those of us with depression do the same thing; some things we cannot control, which I am not addressing, but those things we can control we often ignore and choose poorly. God is not there to pick up every person that falls. Sometimes it makes no sense to us why some are saved and others are not. I would much rather praise our Father for all that goes right in the world, rather than be found complaining that I was not protected from all harm.

Sometimes in life you can make the right decisions and it blows up in your face and they weren't necessarily the best decisions in hindsight, but they were the right ones.
wenglund Posted February 20, 2012 Posted February 20, 2012 (edited) There are people in my life now to whom I have been called to be an angel though they are likely unawares. As a missionary I was called to be an angel to the good folks in South Texas, and I am quite sure that most of the people I spoke with back then were unaware. Thanks, -Wade Englund- Edited February 20, 2012 by wenglund 1
