Rivers Posted October 14, 2011 Posted October 14, 2011 Another good question to ask is this:Why did God put Adam and Eve in this state of no death or reproduction in the first place? Why didn't God simply create the Earth the way it is now?I think that the whole Garden of Eden ordeal was designed as a learning experience for Adam and Eve. And all that they learned in the Eden experience is what we're supposed to learn when we participate in the temple ceremony. 1
Rivers Posted October 14, 2011 Posted October 14, 2011 The real mystery is how God could have used evolution to do all this... If you postulate that the six days of creation were actually thousands, millions, or billions of years, many possibilities are left open.
David T Posted October 14, 2011 Posted October 14, 2011 (edited) If you postulate that the six days of creation were actually thousands, millions, or billions of years, many possibilities are left open.If you postulate that, based on its cultural, textual, and liguistic context, the 'six days of creation' of Genesis 1 had nothing to do with physical origins, then many more possibilities are left open. orion88 Posted October 16, 2011 Author Posted October 16, 2011 I think that the whole Garden of Eden ordeal was designed as a learning experience for Adam and Eve.I believe the Garden was made for Adam and Eve to enjoy themselves inGod's presence and worship him with joy and to enjoy each other's companyas man and woman. They also enjoyed themselves with the provisions He laid out for them."And out of the ground made the Lord God to grow every tree that ispleasant to the sight, and good for food; the tree of life also in the midstof the garden, and the tree of knowledge of good and evil."From what I understand of 2 Nephi, Adam and Eve must have seemedlike emotionless zombies without joy and the ability to worship God withsong. It would be interesting to see an actual Mormon theatrical playdepicting life for Adam and Eve during their stay in the Garden beforethe Fall.Tony

inquiringmind Posted October 16, 2011 Posted October 16, 2011 (edited) Also, how do we fit evolution with the idea of the procreative embrace of Ranginui and Papatuanuku and how did their offspring get along with light? I am sure there is some way to reconcile all this stuff.Who are Ranginui and Papatuanuku? Edited October 16, 2011 by inquiringmind
orion88 Posted October 17, 2011 Author Posted October 17, 2011 More like children...Emotionless 'zombie' children then?
Calm Posted October 17, 2011 Posted October 17, 2011 (edited) There is nothing to indicate they lacked emotion, motivation or thought. What they lacked was experience and knowledge. Edited October 17, 2011 by calmoriah

altersteve Posted October 17, 2011 Posted October 17, 2011 Rather than focusing on what they lacked, can you postulate on someof the major experiences they had before the Fall and what emotions/feelings were involved? Thanks,TonyWell, they walked and talked with God, so I'm sure that was a pretty great experience. They were happy, but they didn't have a fullness of joy, since they didn't know what sadness, anger, grief, or pain felt like. Without those feelings, no progression is possible, and without progression, we can't have the same joy that God has.
