Pat Robertson Says Mitt Is An Outstanding Christian

Robertson said he would continue to comment on the news of the day and noted he likes Mitt Romney's politics. He said he considers the Mormon candidate "an outstanding Christian," but declined to say if he would be OK with a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the White House. Both Romney and former Utah Gov. Jon Huntsman are Mormons seeking the GOP nomination, and many evangelicals are skeptical of the Mormon faith's claims to Christianity.

In hindsight, Robertson said, he would have phrased some of his more controversial pronouncements differently. But he also said he's appreciative of his forgiving audience.

Robertson said he still enjoys doing his show and has not decided how much longer he will stay on the air. His son Gordon — who also says he will not make political endorsements — already fills in for him on Fridays.

Wow. I never thought I'd see the day. Some heads are going to explode out there in la la land.

I say shame on anybody who things that religion (whether it be Mormonism, Islam, Scientology, Paganism, even Satanism) disqualifies a person from being the U.S. president. That's sheer bigotry of the rankest kind.

For people who say a Mormon can't be president, I wonder what they think of founding father and president Thomas Jefferson, who not only believed that God was a material being, and was a deist who considered most of the Bible to be false. He didn't believe in the virgin birth or the resurrection. Jefferson was far less traditionally Christian than Romney is.

I can see this playing out like the President Hinkley interview, only Evangelicals will twist and contort to try and explain it away. "Well he's old and misspoke" they will likely say.

Given Robertson's gaffe a week ago regarding marriage to someone who is too infirm to know what is going on may not be so glowing nor desired an endorsement.

Hey, the Left didn't actually bear false witness of someone/something for a change acting like anti-mormons as they usually do.

They got something right for a change. Thanks for the video..... I'll condemn him, and anyone like him. Anti-mormon bigots, especially Christian and Conservative ones have a special place in my voice of contempt.

However....UPDATE... Just watched some of the first original article link video, where they quote various things he's said about Homosexuality, and what's new, nearly all of their "quotes" of him, is bearing false witness, trying to make him saying something that is bigoted, terrible or false, when it's not. He was factual about what leftists and homosexuals are doing and want to do.

Anyway, I'll give you the Romney and Mormonism bigotry, but I won't give you anything else yet about the guy.

Does anyone actually say that? I think what they are saying is that they won't vote for a person that doesn't share their core values. People who are deeply religious will, not surprisingly, see the religion of a candidate as a defining core value.

Is that wrong?

The country is far more religious today, than back then. Thomas Jefferson couldn't get elected today.

Jaybear:

Every single elected official in the US has sworn to protect and uphold the US Constitution. NONE is required to uphold any religion or lack there of. So could I vote for an Atheist? If I agreed with their political stands. Same with any other religious person. Would I vote for Mormon whom I agree with on religion, but whom wouldn't know the US Constitution if it bit them on the butt? Not a chance.

When given the opportunity to sign a petition that asked if they agreed with the "Bill of Rights" in the US Constitution the overwhelming majority of Americans wouldn't sign it.

Ps. Patrick Henry was a minister.

PPs. Please provide references that Americans were less religious in the late 1800's than they are now.

Would you vote for a candidate for president that you did not believe shared your core values?

Does your religious beliefs play any role in forming your core values?

If "core values" means their religion, then yes. So some people will not vote for a Mormon, even if they agree with the Mormon on every point of politics, simply because she is a Mormon. Some will not vote for an atheist, even though they agree on every political issue, simply because he does not believe in God. There are polls which have revealed that an alarmingly high percentage of people will never vote for a Mormon, an atheist, or a Muslim, under any circumstances. It is religious bigotry, pure and simple.
