Book Notices: Oaks And Monson

For those interested in GA books, I just noticed Deseret placed up for pre-order two new volumes of interest. One is a book of personal reflections by Dallin H. Oaks called, "Life's Lessons Learned', and the other is a topical compilation of "Teachings of Thomas S. Monson" - I'm particularly interested in checking out Oaks' book. It's very short (160 pages), but appears to be the closest thing to a truly autobiographical work he's written. Having enjoyed Robert Hales' "Return" specifically for the insights on his life, this may be interesting in the same vein.

I'm actually quite fascinated with anything approaching GA autobiographical works. I think Russel Nelson's early privately published autobiography "From Heart to Heart" is one of the most insightful things I've ever read from the perspective of understanding the life, emphases, and teachings of a current GA.

What books by currently living General Authorities have you found particularly insightful, and in what way?

I know what books I would love to read from current GA's, like Elders Marlin K. Jensen, Jay E. Jensen and Yoshihiko Kikuchi. I liked Elder Bruce Porter's book about Christ some years ago and anything from Pres. Packer. I think for me one of the most spiritual autobiographies of GA's I have ever read was from Elder F. Enzio Busche. It's the wow factor to say the least. I like Elder Gene R. Cook's and Vaughn J. Featherstone's books as well.
