I recently started a course of scripture study trying to follow the instruction given in D&C 1:37, " Search these commandments for they are true and faithful, and the prophecies and promises which are in them shall all be fulfilled."

I'm going through the D&C and looking for these "prophecies and promises" and considering if they have been fulfilled yet, and if so, how. I presume someone has already done this and written a book on it. Does anyone know of such a book? What D&C resources have you found most enlightening in general? Also, what's your favorite prophecy/promise that has been fulfilled (or wasn't/hasn't/won't be for any critics who feel so inclined to comment).

Let me add that I've only gotten to section 6 in generating my list and I'm very surprised by how many prophecies/promises there are--so far there are around 45. I haven't begun to evaluate if and how they've been fulfilled yet...I'm hoping someone else has already done that for me...

Haven't read this yet but the book:

"Prophecies and Prophetic Promises from the Doctrine and Covenants"

by Roy W. Doxey, 1969

It's a little old but might be a good one to start with. It's in the GospeLink library.

You know how EV's are always telling us that the Book of Revelation says that no one can add to "that book", and so the Book of Mormon can't be true, and then we tell them that the promise only applies to the specific Book of Revelation because the Bible wasn't made into a canon until years later, so there?

Well, D&C 1 was given in 1831, so the promise only literally applies to that original collection of "commandments".

You can certainly apply the promise to the present day D&C (last altered in 1981?), but if you ever get into a pickle and it post-dates 1831, you can totally use that.

That's fantastic--I'll keep it in mind.

Thanks! So far, it's the best place I've got to start with.
