It sounds like from your post that you felt my questions to you were an attack on what you said.

Sorry if I gave that impression. I was just correcting your false statement.
I was just interested in where you got your information.
I got most of my information by reading that wikipedia page (or a previous version thereof), and other information from perusing the internet.
I have never heard of a study where animals are taught to be homosexual. While I guess it may be possible in some species, I would be interested in how a scientist would teach say penquines to be homosexual. Sounds very interesteing. I could not fine any reference to it in the study that you cited.
In certain human cultures young children are taught to participate in such behaviors.

If I recall correctly certain monkey species teach their young certain social interactions involving stimulation. I was unable to find the reference (it used to appear on that wikipedia page if I recall correctly).

From the wiki article: "Some researchers believe this behavior to have its origin in male social organization and social dominance, similar to the dominance traits shown in prison sexuality."

There was only a single reference to chemicals possibly having an effect on homosexuality with animals. That was with black swans.
There is also the study on seratonin, and of course giving male hormones to females (or vice versa) has the same effect. From that article it also says "Researchers found that disabling the (fucose mutarotase) FucM gene

Thanks for taking the time to explain some of the points of your post. Like most scientists, I have no clue what causes someone to be homosexual. I am sure over time, more understanding will come about. This is a relatively new field. I think the only thing that doesn't ring true to me is

1.

While perhaps some homosexual behavior in animals may be purely sexual gratification, in others it is much more than just sex to the point of mating for life and rearing "stolen" eggs etc.

2.

There are very few gay men that I meet that are bisexual. Where there is a sizable group of men that are first married, (me being one of them). they do not view themselves as bisexual. Rather there is so much pressure in society to be heterosexual that many try marriage thinking it will somehow make them straight. Tragically it rearely works out. So at least in the human population, it seems to have little or no relationship to bisexuality.

Just my thoughts.

If there was a pill that would turn someone completely straight and one of your friends wanted, of his own free will and the true desires of his heart, to take it; would you support him or oppose him?

Completely support him Why wouldn't I?

Many of my in-laws are actively gay. They claim that to do so, or even to try to be celibate as the Church teaches is evil, that it isn't being true to yourself or something. It confuses me.
