This really brings to mind the validity of the question: "What would "Jaredite" artifacts look like if we found them? How do we know we haven't?"

When you think about it, what were the Jaredites really?

They were a ruling lineage(Jared->Ether, Coriantmr) that ruled over a population. That's all we know about them. Oh, and that the founders came from Mesopotamia.

FYI

The destruction of San Lorenzo coincides with the destruction that occurred in the days of Com.

The establishment of San Lorenzo coincides with the building of Lib's city.

The fall of La Venta coincides with the end of the Jaredite lineage.

And which direction is the Sea West?

West of course. Could be WNW which could be the Sea of Cortez. I don't know if the text fits the distances to the Sea of Cortez.

edited to add: The Gulf of Tehuanatepc has it's own weather system, it is notorious among sailors. To a group of people on foot it could easily be considered a different body of water than the Pacific Ocean.
