Temples were done away with Christ. Paul says our bodies are the temples of the Holy Spirit. Baptism for the Dead and Eternal Marriage are not in the Bible. So why do we still build Temples?

Baptism for th dead is in the Bible: "Else what shall they do which are baptized for the dead, if the dead rise not at all? why are they then baptized for the dead?" (1 Cor. 15:29) Although it isn't clear in the Bible it is still there. Christian scholars usually don't know what to do with this verse, since Paul just mentions it assuming that his readers know what he's talking about (his original audience would've known). 1 Peter 3:18-21; 4:6 talk about preaching to the dead. Consider what the veil of the temple represents:

19Having therefore, brethren, boldness to enter into the holiest by the blood of Jesus,

20By a new and living way, which he hath consecrated for us, through the veil, that is to say, his flesh;

So when Jesus died, the veil was rent (Matthew 27:51); and thus is the source of the argument that Temples are no longer necessary. But Jesus was resurrected, so symbolically the veil is repaired. And thus the need for temples remains. Not only that, but the flesh is new and perfected; different from the old mortal flesh. This symbolizes the change in priesthood as well as the new ordinances now available to us and required for exaltation. Notice that Paul in Hebrews considers it to be "a new and living way".

As has been shown above, preaching the Gospel to the dead and baptism for the dead are Bible teachings. Eternal marriage is too, but more subtly. Start with the marriage requirement for salvation in 1 Corinthians 11:11.

Of course the answer for LDS is that we build temples because we've been commanded through latter-day revelation to do so, and the ordinances to be performed in our temples have been revealed. Of course, this is only a satisfactory answer if you are a believing LDS. However, these revelations help us to understand the "keys" of the kingdom of heaven that Christ bestowed upon Peter so that whatsoever he would bind on earth would be bound in heaven; and whatsoever he would loose on earth would be loosed in heaven (Matt 16:19) I see nothing in the scriptures that does away with this... only the martyring of the apostles caused this apostolic authority and "keys" to be taken from the earth.

So with the restoration of the gospel and "keys" of priesthood authority, the binding and loosing is once again in full effect as revealed.
