David Bokovoy Posted June 6, 2010 Posted June 6, 2010 This is AWESOME! Thanks so much for sharing these! I am a long time fan of his work and have never heard him speak. You are the best!
DJSuperBrandt Posted June 7, 2010 Posted June 7, 2010 Thanks for the links! I've been checking the thread all day, it looks like you've been spending all day working on this!
rockslider Posted June 8, 2010 Author Posted June 8, 2010 Hey all you audiophiles, question.I've been playing around with some various .iso burning options and wonder if anyone has any input.I'm considering packaging up the various tapes into the following distributions:1. The individual mp3 files like currently being done2. CD .iso of mp3's (3 cd's for Bom seminar - roughly 560meg each - 7 tapes each).3 dvd .iso of mp3's (around 1.6gig, all 21 tapes)4. audio cd - not reasonable? It appears option 4 is limited to 72 minutes of sound and hence is not reasonable for this material. Are options 2 and 3 useful to anyone? I'm afraid you would have to pay for a premium account to download a file over 200 meg from the RapidShare site. There are lots of free applications that would allow you to burn the .iso's to CD/DVD, and/or just "mount" the file as if it was a drive.

I am of course willing to use whatever option is best for you since you are the one that is going through all the efforts. I walked 2 hours tonight and listened to Hyrum the whole way. Thanks again for the efforts. What you are doing now works fine for me if that is OK for you.MD
rockslider Posted June 9, 2010 Author Posted June 9, 2010 Well, this RapidShare site is a bit strange ... the upload tools are poor (and I assume download restart tools as well) ... but the larger than 200meg files appear that I can mark them "TrafficShare" and that my premium account (good for the next 90 days or so), will cover the cost of you downloading them. Someone please give one of the two currently available iso files a try. See if it takes you right to a download dialog with out their rpm gauges and wanting money screen. If this is the case, it would save you from having to do the 20 downloads. The Bom singles are done. The third CD iso and possibly the DVD should be done uploading soon.First tape of Pogp is available ... I'll do the same iso's for it as well as DaC as they complete. edit:I'm seeing the rapidshare light ... I pay for the shared ... but to see how it works:"Every new created Premium Account receives 5GB free-traffic, for free testing of TrafficShare."First come, first served!
David T Posted June 9, 2010 Posted June 9, 2010 The ISOs downloaded perfectly and swiftly last night. I'm burning now, and plan to listen to some of these on the road in the next couple days (I've been drafted last-minute to assist as adult leadership for a couple days at Scout Camp two hours away). Thanks for the effort! I'm actually quite unfamiliar with Hyrum Andrus, and look forward to becoming acquainted.

I only burned the first CD and the dvd, but only did spot checks on actually listening. They seemed fine, but please let me know if you find anything bad here. I want to get Hyrum a set when I'm done.
DJSuperBrandt Posted June 9, 2010 Posted June 9, 2010 I'm actually quite unfamiliar with Hyrum Andrus, and look forward to becoming acquainted.I am too. He has a very distinct way of speaking (reminiscent of a McConkie way, both Bruce and Joseph Fielding). I really really really like that he's expounding on the scriptures in his own way, not using quotes every 2 seconds like I've heard some speakers do.

Scriptures2. Teachings of the Prophet Joseph SmithBoth of which seem to be mostly commited to memory.

DJSuperBrandt Posted June 9, 2010 Posted June 9, 2010 One of the BIGGEST things that caused me to stop going ... again ... is the Sacrament Meeting talks being assigned to GC talks.I lived in a great ward when I lived in Rexburg that gave scriptures for talks (for example, John 3:16). It was probably the best ward I lived in, and the talks were always great.I recently listened to a lecture by a BYU professor I really respect a lot. He is an extremely intelligent guy, and reminds me a lot of Andrus (he's about 5x as fast a talker though). His recorded lecture that I bought? 30 minutes of him quoting and quoting and quoting. I really like Andrus because it's a lot of his own thought and interpretation of scripture. Not to derail the thread, but it seems like sometimes we're scared to try to interpret scripture, or give our own view on it. I never liked that.Anyways, I'm an active downloader (I've got all the one's you've released synched up on the iPod). Keep 'em coming!- DJSB

I downloaded some ISO files but I can't get them to play on the DVD.I am doing fine with the MP3 files though.MD

I downloaded some ISO files but I can't get them to play on the DVD.I am doing fine with the MP3 files though.MDYou have a couple of options. If you just want to get the .mp3's off the .iso, get a program called Daemon Tools Lite. That's a program that will take the image of the cd (the .ISO) and "mount" it in your computer, making it seem like a disk drive. This way, you can get whatever files you want off the disk image onto your computer.

I downloaded some ISO files but I can't get them to play on the DVD.I am doing fine with the MP3 files though.MDMD, I also noted this in the one iso section:heres a free iso recorder/burner you could use for these iso's. http://www.imgburn.com/I created them with this application ... and burned the cd's with it as well ... its easy and free. BTW, there is an advantage to grabbing at least the first iso of the Bom seminar. This has been a bit of a learn as I go type of deal. The first recordings I uploaded were direct recordings. I've since played with various "filtering" software and I've been since applying big clicks, small pops, 50/60 herz removal, hiss and normalized volumes on all mp3's I've uploaded. I've also been adding standard mp3 tags. I think from bom 1-15 don't have the filtering (except for in the iso's). If the mp3 has tags (i.e. title, artist, genre, year, album etc.) then its been filtered as well.
Ariarates Posted June 12, 2010 Posted June 12, 2010 Interesting stuff. Such a pity that the Scientology-crowd comes sailing in straight away with a proven method of suppressing free thought: copyright law.

Such a pity that the Scientology-crowd comes sailing in straight away with a proven method of suppressing free thought: copyright law.OTOH, those of us who know people who make their living off of speeches, writing books etc. think it's a lot nicer to pay for the privilege so that it's a win win situation, we get to learn something new and interesting and the author/speaker gets to eat and have a roof over their heads.

rockslider Posted June 12, 2010 Author Posted June 12, 2010 Pearl of Great Price Seminar conversion is complete. All individual mp3's have been uploaded. There are two ISO's in this set, the first is uploading now (2 hours out), and the second will follow that. I'm starting on the Doctrine and Covenants set now.Just to be clear, I spoke with Hyrum and got permission to convert the tapes to mp3 and make them available to those here. I will be burning a set of DVD's and presenting them to Hyrum when I'm done. These are not tapes that Hyrum ever made any money off of, in fact, it

rockslider Posted June 12, 2010 Author Posted June 12, 2010 Which concepts? Perhaps I haven't reached his major heterodox teachings yet... I'm into Tape 5 of the Book of Mormon, and find his explanations very clear, and for the most part very accurate. There's just a couple of places so far where I've disagreed with him on a conclusion, and those aren't major, and in fact in those area, he was more orthodox than I am I very much appreciate his constant theme of 'Rethrone Christ', to try and get those who have for whatever reason de-emphasized the divinity of Christ to repent, and to see the Book of Mormon as what it is - the most powerful testimony of the divine nature of Christ.Very much enjoying listening to these. It has made some of my driving and house work a bit more entertaining!I don't believe you are going to find anything more "heterodox" than what you have already heard. He will continue to emphasize being endowed with the spirit, to be born again, and personal revelation. He has started out with a bang in the D&C tapes talking about the "condemnation" of individuals/church for not obtaining it. I am wondering if it is these concepts? This is the great mystery to me -- why did the authorities silence this man?
rockslider Posted June 12, 2010 Author Posted June 12, 2010 In what form did they silence him? What was said?I meet Hyrum after this "silencing" (working in Provo and then later the Timpanogos temple). Hyrum was fired from his teaching position in the institute department at BYU (where he had worked his entire career). He also came within an inch of excommunication. I would all but beg Hyrum to teach me, but he would always site his agreement, which was made to allow him to stay in the Church, to not teach anymore. He would not say much about what had occurred. His membership in the church was more important to him than anything else.
rockslider Posted June 12, 2010 Author Posted June 12, 2010 Did he ever say what exactly they had objected to?No, but in Hyrum's words, what ever it was, caused BRM to get right in his face and yell at the top of his lungs at him about it.It was a well know concept at that time, that there are teachings that are true, and if held in private were fine, but if taught in public would be your end (i.e. Pederson letter). What ever it was, it was being taught in public. I assume to both his students at BYU as well as seminars like these Snowflake ones.
