volgadon Posted December 4, 2009 Posted December 4, 2009 Cool, would love to see it. Would love to see the original of the first one as well!I thought this second one was between Watson and Hamblin? Who is Sorenson and why does he now have it? (I have no idea who either of these guys are for the record).FAIR wiki managing editorHow are you the FAIR wiki managing editor when you've heard of neither, despite them being quoted on that site?
DanGB Posted December 4, 2009 Author Posted December 4, 2009 How are you the FAIR wiki managing editor when you've heard of neither, despite them being quoted on that site?Bad cut and paste mgt! Guilty as should be charged!!!
selek Posted December 4, 2009 Posted December 4, 2009 I, personally, think, Dan GB, that you wildly over estimate your place in the scheme of things.Neither Sorenson nor Hamblin is obligated to appear and perform for your amusement, nor is any Mormon- apologist or not- obligated to line up and bark upon command for every obsequious troll who can't be bothered to educate himself.Your entire misbegotten tenure on this board has been one of ill-informed, ignorant, and offensive criticism of the things Mormons hold sacred. You've reveled in your ignorance, flaunted and dismissed the earnest counsel of others, and mocked and derided.Your every claim and characterization of the Church has been negative, condescending, and trite. In all your time here, you've yet to post anything positive about the Church to which you claim to belong. You've made no effort to respect our beliefs, to clothe your ignorance with fact, or to temper your foolishness with wisdom. You are living proof that ignorance can be taught, and drunkenness sobered and youth tempered- but stupid is forever. You are not here to learn, but to sneer. You are not here to converse, but to lecture. You are not here to gain wisdom, but to spread disaffection. You are merely a braying, ignorant, offensive ***, and your place in the stable of the great and spacious building is reserved- bought and paid for in the only currency you possess- arrogance, venality, and flippancy. You are a waste of both oxygen and bandwidth and the Church is well off without you.If the thread ban was working you would be banned from the thread. If you post anything else this inflammatory you will be suspended.
DanGB Posted December 4, 2009 Author Posted December 4, 2009 Selek,I don't believe in "piling on", it's a 15 yard penalty. But one of the values I have gained from the Church and from life in general is that I am not yet worthy enough to stand in judgement of others. I can only conclude, by your post above, that you are either much farther ahead in your spirituality than I am, or much farther behind. But again, I am not in a position to judge that.
selek Posted December 4, 2009 Posted December 4, 2009 Chaos,Suspend me as you see fit.Silencing me is easier than dealing with the flood of lies from the trolls, frauds, and charlatans.DanGB is guilty of all that I have said, and has blatantly misrepresented himself. His lie about not judging others is just that- as he has spent his entire tenure judging the faithful, mocking the sacred, and looking down his nose at the Saints. That having been said, I'll bow out now for greener pastures.
Uncertain Posted December 4, 2009 Posted December 4, 2009 For whats it worth i.e.(very little) I think the whole "Watson" letter issue is much ado about nothing. I mean frankly who cares? Suppose the second letter was pure invention. The apologetic position i.e.( Limited Geography Model etc. )does not rest solely or even mainly on the content of this second letter. Furthermore accusing Dr. Hamblin etc. as fabricating the second letter is poor form. Uncertain

His punishment should be to articulate w intelligence and facts, all the claims he's made against me! If you give someone enough rope ....!Sorry, I will not let his lack of maturity get to me. selek Posted December 4, 2009 Posted December 4, 2009 No CeeBoo,The more I think about it, the more I'm convinced that Chaos is correct. My post was over the top, and-however truthful- did not and does not add to the atmosphere the mods are trying to create and sustain. No matter how cathartic, I shouldn't have stooped to the level I did. With the mod's permission, I'll chalk it up to weariness over the ongoing mockery of the sacred and denegration of godly men- and the corrosive effect that can have on the tempers of hot-heads such as myself.Much as I appreciate the support, I was out of line. Now I really will bow out.

You need to stop the empty mocking chitchat.I have never Mocked nor attacked this Selek poster. I just will not tolerate his, nor anyone elses, uevaluation of my membership or worthiness in the Church. I would hope that this board is not about that. What empty mocking are you referring to?

I just will not tolerate his, nor anyone elses, uevaluation of my membership or worthiness in the Church. I would hope that this board is not about that. What empty mocking are you referring to?- Do not engage in generating noise without substance. (Noise is defined by sniping, sneering, constant one-liners, non-substantive and unsubstantiated posts, taunting, name-calling, vulgarity, excessive chatter and nonstop nit-picking.) You are expected to add something to a dialogue not simply pick apart everyone else's comments. http://www.mormonapologetics.org/index.php?app=forums&module=extras§ion=boardrulesRespectfully tell posters something new or the thread will be closed.
selek Posted December 4, 2009 Posted December 4, 2009 CeeBoo,You're a bad influence- I was all set to walk away, but you baited me back.If your vaunted influence should fail, do you think we should try fudge, lemon chiffon pie, or banana cream pie?I've long contended that baking and the confectionary arts are how I best deal with stress.I have to remember that baking- not roasting critics- is the key. So what shall we try if your valiant efforts fail?

On this thread, I added what I thought was an outstanding idea to diffuse speculation by suggesting that Hamblin and Sorenson participate to eliminate the sheer speculation that was happening. It was only after adding a relevant suggestion that my Church worthiness and character came into question. As you now know. I did the right thing. Yet the poster reprimanded is allowed to continue his attack against me. I reply w constraint, tolerance and sense. How have I violated any board rules, specifically please? Assuming that sincerety is allowed here.

The stress of the boards ( I have been there many times at CAF ).Might I suggest you visit other religious boards as a stress relief ( It has REALLY GIVEN me the GREAT GIFT of alternate perspectives from many I have come to admire and respect )It's also alot less calories. At any rate, I am glad to see you have risen above the heated thread and have shared " Selek " again.Chaos, Love you too.Peace,Your crazy Catholic chefCeeboo

Note to self- gotta find out how to say "banquet" a/o "menu" in French.
Calm Posted December 4, 2009 Posted December 4, 2009 Not sure I understand the reason, background or motive of your question. If you could elaborate I would love to respond!Like Hamba said, these names are well known among those who study the issues you are asking about surrounding the BoM. I just found it surprising that you are demanding "convincing LDS Scholarship" before you've even began to study what's out there. You can find much material by both scholars on the internet and Deseretbook has been offering an online service shipping to pretty much anywhere in the US I believe (and the store I used to work at shipped to anywhere in Canada and I've even sent a book off to Finland for a friend) so the complaint that you don't have a DB within driving distance rings hollow to me.However, I wanted you to clarify your position before my drawing any significant conclusions.Don't know where you live in Texas, but Dallas does have an LDS bookstore: http://www.mormon-books.com/

Calm Posted December 4, 2009 Posted December 4, 2009 Wouldn't it be great to get Hamblin and Sorenson to come here and explain all this speculation first hand??!!From what it sounds like, they contribute here. Their participation on all this would really go a long way to validate whatever is supposed to have really happened! What do you all think?Dr. Sorenson does not. Dr. Hamblin does on occasion.I do not understand why Dr. Hamblin's article is not sufficient info to establish the credentials of the material he used in that article. If that is not enough, then why would anything additional from him convince you differently?

But I also admit I have never looked.I am new to this board stuff and have never heard of most names and schars on this board. Not that they are not special and recognized, but just that it was never a big attraction for me. Hence why I asked what I did. I am not an anthropologist PR geographist, but do field a lot of questions from non members and members on his topic.I just assumed, after being here for thebshort time I have, that there was a plethora of convincing evidence on BOM history I could use w non member questions.I am now beginning to conclude that merely asking that question can be more toxic than the response here. But I hope not!
