The Book of Jeraneck

In 2007, an Englishman named Matthew Phillip Gill founded the "Latter Day Church of Jesus Christ". He also claims to have been visited by the Angel Raphael, who gave him brass plates from which he translated the "Book of Jeraneck", which is a prehistoric English version of the Book of Mormon. You can read it online here (word document).

Interesting features it has is that it claims that the Stonehenge was an ancient Christian temple.

My question: why do these fringe groups keep changing the name of the Church? The Strangites seem to be the only apostates who pay attention to D&C 115:4.

What I want to know is why all of these kinds of people seem to have ceased their study of the English language in the 8th grade?

Maybe he was trying to imitate the spelling and grammar in the 1830 Book of Mormon.... :P

Hey Hoops,

I was giving your question some thought last night, and although I do (to an extent) think my previous comment had a smidgen of legitimacy (based on my limited knowledge of angelology), I thought your question to be valid and in need of a more LDS-esque response.

I suppose LDSers can dismiss it out of hand based on the way the church is organized. They have a prophet/seer/revelator who is steward over them and holds the keys to provide new scripture to the body of believers should it be G-dâ??s will. Unless the current LDS church is in apostasy, new scripture will be revealed/provided through the current leadership/structure (or, if it were to arrive through another medium [such as this guy] it would be approved/disseminated through the current leadership/structure and likely be put before the body of the church for approval/canonization]).

[Edited to be more pedantic]

ANd if the LDS chruch is in a state of apostacy id would be incumbent on some one to show the LDS that it is the case.

Please correct me if I do not represent your answer correctly.

The LDS church is true, therefor any new revelation must come from/to the LDS leadership/prophet. Only when LDS theology is shown to be in apostascy, could one agreeably seek revelation outside of the LDS church.

Is that fair?

I'd say that's a pretty fair summary. I would probably reword (being the nit-picky punk I am) your first sentence to read:

â??If one believes the LDS Church to be true, new revelation must come from/to the LDS leadership/prophet.â?

As to the rest of your summary, I donâ??t know that LDS theology would necessarily have to be shown to be in apostasy/error as much as it would need to be shown that the current leadership no longer held the keys that were initially given to Joseph Smith (how exactly one would go about that task is beyond me). Or, I guess one would simply have to think/believe the LDS Church wasnâ??t what it claimed to be. As long as one believes the keys to still be held by the current leadership, I think they can summarily dismiss (or at least shelve) any new â??scriptureâ? that hasnâ??t passed through the appropriate channels.

At least thatâ??s how I see it (perhaps someone who actually goes to church could verify Iâ??m on the right trackâ?¦ :P)

ACtually I think you made a great point that they have to not hold the keys. I think this is accurate.

Good job.
