Yes I know John W... "What does this have to do with the BOM?" :P

Was the iron native to L'aux Meadows or imported? And of course, since this utterly is unrelated to the BoM, I don't think the Vikings would have taught the Skraelings metalworking. Honestly, I'm confused. Why did you post this? Interesting stuff, but what's your intended point?

I'll say what it has to do with the BoM. It provides a concrete example of the kinds of artifacts one might expect to find in an archeological site where people really did smelt iron, ie: iron slag, a forge, etc.

Iron Slag and forge yes.

Rivets etc. Maybe not.
