katherine the great Posted August 11, 2007 Posted August 11, 2007 so where did he get his authority? Presumably from Jesus Himself.

Mark 3-13-18. {I think Paul was in the origanil twelve?}
urroner Posted August 11, 2007 Posted August 11, 2007 How can you trust Paul to tell the truth? Each of his three accounts of his vision of Christ differed from the other two. Maybe he just got his story confused, or maybe it was Luke .

I speak the truth in Christ and lie not."So apparently Paul was ordained, we are just not told when or by whom.
katherine the great Posted August 11, 2007 Posted August 11, 2007 From the seminal article on the Priesthood Restoration Brian Cannon writes:So apparently Paul was ordained, we are just not told when or by whom.Well I doubt it was by any of the twelve! (unless it was much later.)
The_Monk Posted August 11, 2007 Posted August 11, 2007 A few thoughts.1) Apostle in the NT is not always a technical term, as we use it today.2) Current conceptions of priesthood organization don't map well onto the OT, NT or BoM. 3) Why would he need authority to preach the gospel? Be cautious and aware of the assumptions you bring to your question.
LovemyLord Posted August 11, 2007 Posted August 11, 2007 How can you trust Paul to tell the truth? Each of his three accounts of his vision of Christ differed from the other two. Maybe he just got his story confused, or maybe it was Luke .Could you please expound on this?To which 3 accounts are you referring, and from what do they differ?

Acts chapter 9 verse 17.. And ananias went his way, and "putting his hands on him" {Saul or "Paul"} said brother saul {Paul} The lord even jesus, that apperared unto thee in the way as thou camest, hath sent me, that thou mightest receive thy sight, and be "filled with the holy Ghost". this appears to me the time when paul was ordained By Ananias.
e=mc2 Posted August 12, 2007 Posted August 12, 2007 It's also argued by some scholars as a re-write to legitimize Paul form Luke's perspective....... Luke's agenda needed Paul to have this experience. Rememb er, Acts is not so much about history, as in say, what actually happened, as in presenting a theological agenda about issues for the church.
Jigglysaint Posted August 12, 2007 Posted August 12, 2007 Peter obtained the keys the day he held aloft his magic sword and said "By the Power of Grayskull!" "I have the Priesthood!".Wasn't one of the newly called apostles named Orko?
Zakuska Posted August 12, 2007 Posted August 12, 2007 Hmmm I recieved the "Key" to baptise from my Local Bishop (Priesthood Leaders). Seems to me Paul did the same thing when Ananasias placed his hands on Paul.

Seems to me Paul did the same thing when Ananasias placed his hands on Paul.I think you mean you were given permission to baptize by the one person in your ward who holds the key to baptism. The key wasn't given to you.
Zakuska Posted August 12, 2007 Posted August 12, 2007 Thank you for drawing attention to my point.Theres a difference between thre "keys" and the Authority etc etc etc.Paul didn't need the "Keys" because Peter had them. But he did need Authorization to go Do what he was told to.
