I know they all have their eyes scanned incase they are kidnapped or something can't remember what the reason was. I also understand all their suits are provided by a Mormon Business, not sure if they advertise it for sales or not? I also understand they will no longer stay over at a Stake Presidents home when visiting another country for some reason any one know why? Comments most welcome?They drive. President Hinckley is in his ninety-seventh year. Not surprisingly, given his age and his position, he has a driver. Not too long ago, though, I was at the funeral of a good friend from a very prominent old Salt Lake family. (Her brother is a member of the Twelve.) President Hinckley and many of the Brethren attended. Four of the Twelve came in the same quite ordinary car, and were parked next to my wife and me in the church parking lot.I've never heard the bit about "eye-scanning." I would suggest that you not believe everything you hear. Perhaps this is true, but perhaps not.They buy their suits wherever they want to buy them.There may be a policy about not staying with stake presidents. I've never heard about it.You seem to have a very, very, er . . . interesting source.

Calm Posted September 30, 2006 Posted September 30, 2006 Oh, oh, if we're handing out anecdotes now.....My husband's grandfather worked as a custodian at the Church's headquarters. He originally was a Christian Scientist and used to tease the GAs if they got sick because they lacked faith.

I suppose some might use their own cars( I'll have to ask my niece what kind of car Pres. Monson drove when he came in to pick up his dry cleaning), but I was told the car provided by the church for the leaders is the Toyota Avalon. I can see why--they are roomy, well-built, very nice but still reasonably priced. They have excellent reliability and fairly good gas mileage for their size. I saw Elder Hales two weeks ago and I'm pretty sure he was driving an Avalon.

If we have a concern, we go to the bishop. His next in authority is the stake president, then regional authority. The person who writes directly either does not understand the order, or wants to circumvent it. One is ignorant, one is rebellious. Following the chain of command will keep you from getting busted to a private, put on kitchen patrol duty (or folding chairs) or even worse, court of love marshaled.Baruke Ale, as far as contacting a General Authority, may I suggest going through FAIR's Dr. Daniel C. Peterson, who when not meeting with the Ukrainian Ambassador, the Korean Delegation or addressing the General Assembly of the United Nations, may be able to bring your concerns to the forefront.Has anyone addressed the Reptilian design and manufacture of the Toyota Avalon driven by the General Authorities?

I think the reason they don't publish them is cost. No one needs any segment of it unless they have a calling that it pertains to. So if the Church made copies for everyone and distributed them out, would you complain the Church wasted its resources?Are you still high on red cordial with the make up a file on you remark for asking questions? You asked about "tasks" at the Church office building. I doubt that secretaries are called and set apart. But members of committees to write manuals, etc. surely are. Please understand, we don't bug the prophet or the 12 with questions that others can answer as well. You must be coming from a tradition where only the one leader of the church knows the doctrine or can speak authoritatively. That isn't the way it is with us. A bishop has the authority to handle your questions. If there is something he doesn't know, he can go to someone else. We also accept that we have the ability through our own study and prayer to learn. We don't just run off to get a question answered that we could get the answer to ourselves. That is the way true learning is.I don't live in Utah as you assumed. And you must have missed out on all the traveling President Hinckley has done all over the world. Millions of Saints have seen the prophet in person.

There is a certain amount of removal from circulation that comes with being responsible for an organization of millions of people- but compared to most leaders I work with at their equivelent level on private industry they are very hands on.Unlike other professional clergy, all of these man had jobs working for most of their lives prior to taking on their extended mission calls, so if anything the LDS Church leaders have a better idea of what it is like for the average member to carry out their ecclesiastical duties, live their lives and work for their bread.The people working with them to prepare materials and such are "normal" people, they just happent to work at Church Headquarters.

They have families, both nuclear and extended. They reside in and attend wards. They themselves come from ordinary Latter-day Saint backgrounds. They have had ordinary jobs. They have served as missionaries, bishops, stake presidents. They have spent innumerable hours counseling with ordinary members. They are not -- to choose one very contrasting model -- a professional celibate clerical caste that resides in monasteries. They have their finger on the pulse of the Church.Postscript: Elder Holland's powerful talk in today's powerful afternoon session contained a section that could almost have been spoken in direct rebuttal to solomarineris's claim, above. Elder Holland is right.

I can understand taking DNA for identification of bodies, but retinas?
