webbles Posted November 26, 2025 Posted November 26, 2025 I'm a bit frustrated with sltrib's reporting - https://www.sltrib.com/religion/2025/11/25/wade-christofferson-brother-top/ They mention that he looked up whether not clergy in Ohio are required to report and they say "yes" Quote Dublin police searched Christofferson’s home the same day they received the report, according to the news release. A search of his phone allegedly revealed a search history for criminal defense attorneys in Ohio and the phrase, “In Ohio do clergy have to report child abuse confessions.” The answer, per a 2025 Ohio law, is yes. But that’s not the case in Utah, where the law says clergy “may” report abuse obtained through a confession, but it does not require them to do so. Except they link to the law about privileges (which includes clergy) and it says that the penitent has the privilege and the clergy may only be compelled to testify if the penitent waived it. They link to the wrong law and should have instead linked to https://codes.ohio.gov/ohio-revised-code/section-2151.421 which is about child abuse reporting and it says that the priests are not mandatory reporters (unless the penitent is another clergy member). So, both Utah and Ohio are similar in this regard. 3
helix Posted November 26, 2025 Posted November 26, 2025 Ya, almost certainly waiting until it's officially filed. News via rumors can get real ugly real fast. Also can put the news organization in ugly legal footing. If the alternative is to wait a day or two for the facts to get officially laid out by the government, then that's the professional course of action. 1

What a shame he didn't learn his lesson 20 years or so, instead of continuing or returning to what sounds like multiple new wrongful behaviors. Yeah, there are some disturbing details. The FaceTime allegations answer why the Feds might be involved. Hopefully, he'll use the time he'll be getting to get his repentance right this time. 1
Calm Posted November 26, 2025 Posted November 26, 2025 (edited) The attic crawl space…does he have kids or grandkids? Because as a kid, my siblings and I had a setup in our attic where we drew Batcave computers and other stuff on the insulation paper with markers iirc (could have been crayons) and had blankets and pillows stashed there as our ‘hiding place’. Parents just used the back half for storage and let us do what we want with the front. Never slept in it, but an extra mattress would have been perfect, we just didn’t have extra mattresses. I was going to make a similar hideout under the stairs for my grandkids, but by the time we actually had it cut and trimmed out, the youngest was about 8 and wasn’t thrilled about it, especially since the house came with a two story playhouse in one of the kids rooms that was even carpeted. I have seen several decorating shows do a Harry Potter hideout for kids. That part I don’t think is unusual if they have grandkids. While it may be problematic, I would need to see more evidence he used it for such beyond its mere existence. ——— The letters are disgusting if they mean what is claimed and very, very odd and need to be explained if not. Based on the article, I am sticking with my position that this was family. Likely daughter in the 1990's and granddaughter recently.

I will be surprised if so because of claims made elsewhere, but it would explain why he was allowed to FaceTime with her if her parents were aware of the communication, though that could have happened when earlier. Do you know anything about his family? Edited November 26, 2025 by Calm 1

Tacenda Posted November 26, 2025 Posted November 26, 2025 I've just found out someone near and dear to my family was sexually abused by an older brother. She's been suffering for years and this is lifelong. What can we do to help society not do these horrible crimes. I wish I knew. 3
Calm Posted November 26, 2025 Posted November 26, 2025 So a friend did research and passed it on to me: https://web.archive.org/web/20181206011915/https://www.sltrib.com/religion/2018/11/30/mormonisms-scarlet/ Annotations began in the late 60s, but while there was a flag, if the member moved, it would be removed after the new bishop called on seeing the red flag or whatever it was and was informed by the former bishop. Only in 1995 did annotations shift to only being able to be removed by the First Presidency. 3
