Interview with First Female African American LDS Chaplain in the US Air Force

There are "firsts" every day. I happened to run into this one and thought it might be of interest. Here's the Church News article about her: Latter-day Saint woman promoted to chaplain in Air Force Reserve

The odd thing about this is something that would only puzzle me. The US Army commissions chaplains at the captain rank, so it puzzled me that she entered service as a chaplain as a first lieutenant, instead of a captain. Maybe that's an Air Force thing? Or a reservist thing? Well, whatever...

Her husband is a US Marine gunnery sergeant, also in the reserves.
