A Discussion on the Riches of the Church

This is a long video from the "Let's Get Real with Stephen Jones" YouTube channel interviewing the Church Historian about the Church's billions of dollars. I just thought it was interesting. I'm posting it here because it's really too long to be a heated-discussion topic. Just for your possible interest. Until today I'd never heard of the host, Stephen Jones, but he has an interesting channel. The subject of money isn't the only thing discussed.

Here's the video description:

What lies behind the financial success of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints? Church Historian Casey Griffiths seeks to challenge common assumptions—that the Church's wealth is secretive, excessive, and mismanaged. He helps us understand that the Law of Consecration, a principle rooted in unity and faith, is the cornerstone of its financial practices, guiding its mission and humanitarian efforts worldwide. We discuss common misconceptions, the balance between saving and giving, and why the Church operates differently from other religious organizations.

If you’ve ever wondered where tithing funds go, why the Church invests in businesses, or how financial decisions align with spiritual principles, this conversation is for you.

  • Why does the Church save so much money?
  • What is the law of consecration?
  • How do Latter-day Saints view wealth and giving?
  • What does the Church actually spend its money on?
  • Do church leaders get paid?
