Downvoting - what and why

If the forum reputation statistics are correct, I have never given a down vote. That seems strange though, because I seem to recall thinking that I had done so in the past. Rarely, admittedly, but I didn't think the number was actually zero.

I generally tend to up-vote things I like or agree with, but that's not an absolute. I'll give an up-vote to somebody holding a view I don't agree with if they make a good point or (more likely) say something especially clever that makes me chuckle and say to myself 'claps to you my friend.'

Down-vote, on the other hand, is usually reserved for when I say to myself (in a British accent, obviously), 'Bad form, old chum. Bad form.'

And I can be quite arrogant occasionally, so...

I feel much the same way about reactions from certain posters. For me, it's related to respect. (by the way, perhaps this is what will prevent me, in the end, from becoming a god: I decidedly am a respecter of persons 😀, including some I disagree with)
